It’s Galentines 💕❤️💕 Our BASIC Babies had Conversations from the Heart at our meeting. We discussed ways we show love to ourselves while developing confidence. We watched a confidence clip from expert Lisa Lopez to “Learn More” ways to respect ourselves.

On Christmas Day this year, it will be 6 years since Akanimo died of Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor - a rare and aggressive sarcoma at the age of 12.
In commemoration of his death, we visited the Pediatric Oncology Unit of the Children’s Hospital here in Greenville to share with the children receiving life-saving treatment for cancer.
This was our way of bringing joy and giving comfort to children battling for their lives while holding space for our pain. We were received by Abigail - one of the childlife specialists we work with, who took us on a lovely tour of their newly renovated unit. We are glad to see how it turned out upon completion 💛🤩😍
The kids got to make their choice of plushies, blankets and hats and it was delightful to watch their brains try to decide and the light in their eyes when they finally make their choice.

Exploring college life beyond the classroom at @converseuniversity . Our BASIC Babies Nonprofit Org. college mentee @taedidmyhair_ gave us a tour that highlighted academic & student life. Our youth were able to see the food pantry @valkyriesupply on campus where they’ve donated for the month of November.
They enjoyed the different dorm styles, athletics, spiritual life, and the creativity of college students. This tour fulfilled our mission. 🦋See More. Learn More. Serve More 🦋
Lab Camps 🔬are informative and effective each session. We appreciate all parents/guardians that allowed their youth to learn with us in depth. Sex/Health Education was taught by 2 @prisma_health Healthcare Physicians while I took them to the microscopes to show them what STD’s/STI’s look like for diagnosis.

Tonight’s Lab Camp gave our youth real hands-on learning — microscopes, STI/STD education, workforce exposure, and conversations that actually prepare them for real life.
Huge shoutout to Mamacita Thomas, @basicbabies864 , @prisma_health , @spartanburgacademicmovement , and all the partners who pour into these students consistently.
Every time I show up in these rooms, I’m reminded why this work matters — access, exposure, and opportunities our kids don’t always get in their neighborhoods.
