The Shy Waiter
How did the bird swallow get its name? Inside her belly lies a red stone. I imagine her diving in spirals. Stand by.
Birds have been singing since January. There was no doubt. They dared to break the news. Sung space took shape and became the bird’s body. The world became not musical but melodic. We got lucky with the weather.
I almost want to tell you something. Maybe tomorrow I’ll call. The content got heavier than the container. Words drop down my throat, but that’s okay, because I’d rather catch them in my stomach.
The shy waiter mumbles, “Enjoy your food.” The moment has come to turn to song. Almost.
