Join actor Robert Lee Hardy as he pays homage to August Wilson, performs theatrical monologues, and reimagines classic hip-hop verses as monologues, with live music by Bashi Rose & The Emperor King Bishop, live healing by Damany Vinson, and Baltimore storytelling.

Meet the Artists Behind The Black American Story
On Saturday, April 4, 2026, the Spady Museum brings something extraordinary to Delray Beach — a lyrical journey where history speaks and music answers back. The Black American Story blends live jazz with powerful storytelling to explore the richness, resilience, and complexity of Black history. This is more than a performance — it’s a portal.
🎙️ Brian Knowles (Narrator & Founder, Power Builders) is the architect of Spady Museum’s Black History Studies curriculum, bringing deep knowledge of African ancestry to life through dynamic storytelling — setting the “call” for the musicians to “respond” with soul.
🎹 Lafayette Gilchrist (Jazz Pianist & Composer, Baltimore) is an internationally touring force who has shared stages
worldwide alongside legendary saxophonist David Murray.
🎸 Bashi Rose (Musician, Theatre Artist & Filmmaker) is the founder of Konjur Collective and has performed everywhere from the Brooklyn Academy of Music to the Black Panther Party Film Festival.
🔮 Emperor King Bishop | Solomon Selassie calls himself not a musician but a “Sonic Alchemist” — a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and producer who uses music as a spiritual practice, a space for healing, vulnerability, and unconditional love.
Together they’ll celebrate the 2nd class of the Black History Studies Program, the 100th anniversary of the Spady House, and the 25th anniversary of the Spady Museum. This is history. This is music. This is community.
