Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia - a global moment to recognise and challenge the discrimination, violence and barriers still faced by LGBTQIA+ communities worldwide.
As part of this commitment, BASHH has co-created an e-learning session to support inclusive, affirming sexual healthcare for trans, non-binary and intersex people.

Today, on International Nurses Day, we asked Jodie Crossman, BASHH Nurse Representative, to help us celebrate the exceptional nurses working in sexual health and HIV medicine.
Nurses provide expert, compassionate, and respectful care to every person they support. Through their work, they create safe, inclusive, and non‑judgemental spaces, challenge stigma head‑on, and make a profound difference to the lives of individuals and the wider community.
As part of our nurse-led programme of work on careers and professional development in GUM, BASHH is calling for employers to break down barriers to accessing education and development that nurses experience. You can find out more via the BASHH website.
Thank you to all nurses for everything you do. Today, and every day, we celebrate you.

Come with me for a 3 day s*xual health & HIV conference in Liverpoooool!! 🤗✨❤️
So some interesting things I learnt:
1️⃣Non-f*tal str*ngulation, so ch0king, during seggs is becoming more common, especially in younger people, but the talk on this highlighted that lots of healthcare professionals aren’t yet trained or confident in how to ask about it or manage the risks, so that’s something we need to get better at!
2️⃣Taking the antibiotic doxycycline after seggs (doxyPEP) reduces chlamydia and syphilis risk which is so great if you’re having lots of unprotected seggs! But it raises real concerns about antimicrobial resistance long term.
3️⃣One study showed over half of patients didn’t complete follow up, not because of the treatment, but because of everything else going on in their lives!! It’s a reminder that psychosocial factors often determine outcomes as much as anything we prescribe.
See you next year @bashh_uk@britishhivassoc !!
