It’s not often Queer Arabs are given a platform; and I was offered an incredible opportunity to represent @queerarabsaustralia and present at the "From Stonewall rebellion to assimilation and pink washing: How did we get here and what will it take to win LGBTQIA+ liberation?" event, co-hosted by the @freedomsocialistpartyaus & @radicalwomenaus . Alongside other incredible speakers, in a room with friends, community and allies I was able to borrow their strength to get through this incredibly heart-felt, and difficult topic. I was broken and vulnerable before I spoke, and I was absolutely shattered when I was done. That hug by @nataliesqrl came at the perfect time. Presenting on lived experience and matters so close to our hearts often drains most of our emotional battery. Delving into our thoughts confronts us with emotions, trauma, experiences, may leave us at our most vulnerable. We do this to teach others what it means to go through life with a different lens, so others can understand another perspective. There are many struggles around the world, especially in marginalised and multi-marginalised communities. Many of us share an experience of being expected to move on, continue life, and pretend that our daily struggles must remain hidden from many sections of our life, including our workplace. After the presentation I had to “switch back” into work mode as I had to attend an event. I then had work on Monday and continued the week, while my emotional self-confrontation and vulnerability had impacted my state of being. I did this for community, and for other communities to listen, understand and learn. Hopefully to further create change in the world. We don’t get to pick and choose who is entitled to human rights, and meaningful change can only happen if it starts from within community and can only be intertwined within culture when it’s supported by allies. So please speak up for causes you’re passionate about; or causes your marginalised friends and family care about. We need allies to make a difference. Moments from the @314movement Launch by Euphoria Social at Edinburgh Gardens. Our community gathered on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country for a peer-led LGBTQIAPN+ mental health event centred on connection, conversation, and community care. Across the afternoon there were speakers sharing lived experience, workshops and performances, community stalls, quiet moments in the park, and plenty of space simply to sit together and connect. What made the day possible was the generosity of the people involved. Every organiser, volunteer, speaker, workshop facilitator, and stallholder donated their time to support the community. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped create something meaningful together. If you were there, tag yourself or someone you shared the day with. 📷 @brigbeephoto @medibank @communitybankcliftonhill @cityofyarra #melbournelgbtqia #queermelbourne #melbourneevents #314movement euphoriasocial

Allegation 1. In my 8+/- years at Monash Health, I had never received any formal disciplinary action. Yet, not long after I called out their bullying and discrimination, and didn’t back down - these allegations came my way. I found a lot of these allegations targeted, and hypocritical. This process targeted my culture, sexuality, race, political opinion, cognitive abilities and mental health. Due to their actions I was going through a breakdown, while they spoke about how much they cared about people, and their mental health. A reminder to seek help/support if you are (or have experienced any workplace bullying). #monashhealth #monashhealthfoundation #melbourne #bullying #healthcare

These are some of the tactics I experienced. Tactics are often used to control your behaviour, and the narrative. Organisations often rely on subjugation, attempting to bring you under their control. As people say “HR is not your friend”. If you speak out, or call out behaviours you’re often labeled “the angry one”, or “not the right cultural fit”. If you’ve experienced or witnessed bullying and discrimination, please fill out the form in my bio. There is also a link to my GoFundMe. #bullying #monashhealth #discrimination #work #employment

Trigger warning: This is the post that terrified me most. This is me sharing some of my most vulnerable moments. Why? Because this is the reality of what people have to suffer when dealing with what I call “abuse through bureaucracy”. This is what organisations do to crush people. It happened to me. Monash Health is a public hospital, which promotes caring for people. It also knows how to use the law to break people. When someone says at least it didn’t break you - I usually respond with “it did. Over, and over again”. If you see someone being mistreated at work please speak up, and please fill out the form in my bio if you have experienced or witnessed workplace bullying and discrimination. You can remain anonymous. The more people that share, the more likely we can make a difference. There is also a GoFundMe IF you have capacity/want to, but life is difficult, and I understand if you can’t, or simply don’t want to. Please know releasing this isn’t easy, and I may need to disconnect from life for a bit. However, please know - I’ll always love each of you, and I will keep fighting for fairness. We don’t get to pick and choose who has access to human rights ❤️🫂 If seeing this has impacted you in anyway, please reach out to someone you trust for support, or a support organisation you trust. #australia #naam #mentalhealth #awareness #bullying

I know this is a little long, but this is just some of the things I experienced at my workplace. This can be backed up with evidence. I have included a red flag for each issue that arose. This is what people have to go through. I believed in the system treating people fairly, but I was wrong. My form of advocacy is holding a mirror to hypocrisy. The organisation set the status quo, and I followed it. I followed their policies and procedures, and things were okay. Until their policies and procedures put them in a position where they chose to ignore what they’ve allowed in the past, so that I would be silenced. For anyone who has been mistreated at work. If you have ever experienced bullying and/or discrimination, please - fill out the form in my bio. Your experience could help make it safer for others. We need to stop suffering in silence. I love you all ❤️🫂 #australia #bullying #discrimination #advocacy #racism

For the last couple of years, I experienced what felt like bullying and discrimination in the workplace. I genuinely believed in a fair system, but I was proven wrong. I raised concerns, and was not backing down. After 8-9 years in my workplace, without any previous formal disciplinary action I was fired. My employer stated this was because of the media article which was based on a video on my personal social media. Challenging the system broke me. It caused me financial ruin, severe depression, and mental health issues. I genuinely believed the organisation cared for our health and wellbeing. But then they started pushing me to breaking point. There was daily breakdowns, panic attacks, isolation, and extreme loss of capacity. I could have kept silent, but then what changes? People suffer in silence, while organisations continue to cause harm, and protect those who caused the harm? Speaking out isn’t easy, but it’s far easier than fighting their way. I don’t have the capacity, legal, or financial resources to do it. So I need to do it my way. I want to create change so it’s easier for others. I will be a series of posts, really showing what happens, and the impact it has. To help create change, I’m launching a form for people to describe their experiences with workplace bullying and discrimination, whether you have been directly impacted, or whether they have seen it in their workplace. Please share the form around, and fill it out you have experienced it. I want to use the information captured to highlight how widespread this is, and hopefully to create change. Separately, I’ve also created a GoFundMe to help me pay for my expenses, and get me back on track. In future posts, I’m going to be extremely transparent about the situation it put me in. I don’t want others to experience this, and I want those who fought their silent battles to know they weren’t the only ones. I love you all, and remember - we need to be the change we want to see in the future. Over representation vs. under representation, and the power of frogs. ONE frog species located in Hollywood is the reason why many of us (especially in English speaking countries) associate frogs with the sound “ribbit”. Simply because a representation. We see this everywhere, with lots of people in power speaking against marginalised communities, and making decisions for them. Let’s remember to include the most marginalised voices in decision making processes. It’s okay to be uncomfortable if it means another person can become safe. We shouldn’t fear the uncomfortable, instead we should understand what about a situation makes us uncomfortable. Remember to speak up. Also thank you to my Frogspert @perseton for fact checking my frog data 🐸 #frogs #speakup #represent #representation #love
