We want to better understand:
- what our community is doing well
- challenges people are experiencing
- what type of events and spaces dancers want to see more of
Your input will help guide future programs and initiatives that support safer, more inclusive and sustainable street dance spaces in the Bay Area and beyond.

Our June 2026 cohort is officially full! 🤯
In less than one week we have received 100+ applications for our first ever Dj cohort fellowship program. The amount of love, vulnerability, passion and intention people shared in there responses moved us deeply. Thank you to all that have made time to apply and share their stories
What stood out for us was not that people want to learn how to DJ, but WHY…
Many applicants shared that DJing has been a lifelong dream they never had access to, resources for, of confidence to pursue until NOW. Others are dancers, organizers, teachers, musicians, and community leaders looking to explore another pillar of the culture and give back to their scenes.
That reminder is everything to us: ACCESS MATTERS. COMMUNITY MATTERS. CULTURE MATTERS
If you applied please check your email for confirmation and next steps. Even if our first cohort is full, applicants are still encouraged to tap into our 1on1 coaching or smaller group classes while waiting for placement
Our next cohorts beginning in late July and August still have limited spots, but they are filling up fast on a first come basis
We are also accepting donations to help power our 2026 programs, events, workshops and community initiatives, including this s DJ cohort. If you believe in accessible arts education, culture and creating opportunities for the next generation of creatives, please consider supporting. Anything helps and goes directly to providing resources like this for the community

Help us honor 10 years of youth traditions and bring in a new generation of sound and experience!
Join us for art exhibits and activities hosted by young people in our yearly Arts Expression Showcase event created by youth for youth.
As well A 2v2 breakin battle bridging generations, empowering youth and strengthening community through local Hip-Hop culture in the Bay Area
Open to Youth (17 and under) X Mentors (18 and up)
after prelims breakers will be paired up through random draw, sharing the floor and collaborating in real time with their partners in a tournament till one team is left taking home prizes and custom trophies!
This battle is open to all ages & skill levels taking place alongside the 10th annual

INTRO TO DJING — COMMUNITY COHORT FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

This is FREE and open to anyone in the bay area 16+ who’s ever wanted to learn but didn’t have access, or the right environment
4-6 week program
(Friday evenings)
All equipment provided
(Laptops + DJ gear + Sound)
No experience required — Just Commitment to the craft
This is a small collaborative group cohort, you’ll be learning alongside other participants in a safe, focused, supportive environment
This is a guided space focused on
- DJ history + foundations
- Beat-matching + Mixing
- Song Selection + Digging + Building Sets
- Intro to scratching
- Prep for parties, sessions + dance events
- How to create your own sound as an artist
This program will culminate in a live performance opportunity, giving participants a chance to apply the skills they learned in a real setting among peers and supporters.
The goal is to develop the next generation of DJs with proper support, mentorship and community
This program is free to apply and participate. Donations are welcome + encouraged and go directly towards supporting the BASDA and our future community programs.
There’s a lot of gatekeeping in DJ culture — This is about creating something different to change that.

We’re bringing a FRESH, NEW, FORMAT to the Bay Area with this one!! This ain’t a dance battle, it’s a dance PARTY, and you can win $$$ for just being a vibe!
Join us at CY Danceworks on June 28, 2026 at 6:30PM (PT) where three secret judges will decide if partiers qualify for the $350 prize based on the following criterias:
* Do you hype people up?
* Do you dress for the occasion?
* Do you dance with others?
* Just be a total vibe?
Essentially, whoever brings the most vibes to the party, takes the prize!

This party will feature two dance rooms and four amazing DJ’s who’ll rotate rooms and genres throughout the evening. There will also be performances and additional prizes. Stay tuned!
