I’m taking a landscape painting class with John Hughes through SLCC this semester. Tonight we painted plein air at Bountiful Pond. What a gorgeous evening to paint!! Although it was hard to stay focused on painting while watching the mating pair of pelicans fly in and settle on the water amidst all the other waterfowl. Mostly coots and mallards on the water and the pair pictured kept coming up to me, begging for food and pecking on my shoelaces. Even a cormorant landed near me. The sunset was spectacular to watch. I attended the showing tonight of Wake the Great Salt Lake’s art installation, A symphony of disappearing sounds for the Great Salt Lake, by the renown Olafur Eliasson, in Memory Park, across from the Capital. It was totally mesmerizing. A three story light globe superimposed with abstract designs as well as a soundtrack combining drums and the sounds of the Great Salt Lake. My new pup, Tau, aborigine for dusk or twilight, honoring his breed, Australian Kelpie. He’s almost 9 years old but full of energy. Walked him to the local businesses that give out treats today (thanks! @grabcinnfulbuns and @rawbeancoffee ) and to his first trip to the studio. He settled right in.
