New York’s relentless spirit lies within the people who maintain its allure. Underneath the city’s haste is a layer of dynamism within music and art communities alike. Rising DJ, Camille, affectionately known as DJ Camdoom, blends genres across diasporas. From Brazilian reggaeton to UK deep house, her mixes evoke southern church-like movement infused into Dominican funk. By day, she works within construction management for NYC’s most erratic mode of travelling: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Movement and endurance shape the world she’s building, which guide her spirit toward a runner’s lifestyle. Her propulsive nature defies her trajectory within the city that never sleeps. Inside New York’s art decan structures, sits fashions modernist school of higher learning: The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). First year business management student, Nicole, is native to Venezuela. Having grown up in both the urban environment and western Andes, her call to the mountains is embedded in her bones.
Both women are representing a need for utility and function, however, centered around community and culture. The waiting of a delayed bus forces the two to slow down and discover their surroundings, including each other. Their divine attraction leads them toward the Arc’teryx altitudinous universe.
