We signed up for HYROX Bangalore in October/November and started training from scratch. I had never been a runner ā 200m felt impossible at first. But slowly it became 500m, then 1K, 3K, 5K⦠and eventually 12K in one stretch within two months.
Then everything changed.
I injured both my knees ā one with an ACL (Grade 1) and meniscus (Grade 2) tear. Multiple doctors and physios werenāt sure if I could even participate in April.
Rehab began. Progress was slow. In Jan and Feb, I tried running again and again ā even 100m felt impossible. Either the pain hit instantly or showed up worse the next day. Around the same time, other parts of my life were also falling apart. I was low, frustrated, and honestly⦠a bit lost.
I took a break and went back home in March. During that time, my doubles partner
@abiinashp and I discussed every option- even selling the ticket (not possible due to name restrictions). We tried switching to singles so at least he could race - that didnāt work either.
At one point, we accepted it. Skip this one. Come back stronger next time.
Coming back home, I was carrying a lot- guilt, frustration, and disappointment. Not just for me, but because my partner would miss out too.
Then something shifted.
Three weeks before race day, I tried running again. 100m⦠no pain. 200m⦠still fine. It didnāt hurt, so i kept doing again.
But the bigger question remained- wall balls, sled push, burpees, farmerās carry⦠with this knee?
What followed were 3 weeks of pure belief, controlled training, and a mental reset. I told my partner ā letās just show up and finish.
Our goal was simple: sub-2 hours. We had never achieved it in training. Our max was 6K run + 6 stations.
Race day hit different.
Carb loading started a few days prior, electrolytes the day before, caffeine on race morning ā and a special shoutout to the honey we carried and took after the 4th station. Instant energy boost.
With a target of under 2 hours, we crossed the finish line in 1:51:54 ā even after accidentally running 9K instead of 8K.
Six months. Highs and lows. Pain, doubt, setbacks⦠and one hell of a comeback.
