The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery is honored to announce that we have been awarded an Infinite Expansion Grant by the @mike_kelley_foundation ! We are truly grateful to receive this award alongside 8 other prominent arts institutions in Los Angeles. This award helps support our presentation of Susan Silton: Diving into the Wreck, a comprehensive survey exhibition opening later this year.

Barnsdall Art Park (@barnsdallpark ) sits on top of Olive Hill where art, architecture, history and expansive views inspire and delight.
It has been called the Acropolis of Los Angeles. Stand at the top and you understand why.
From the lawn here in the middle of East Hollywood, you can see across the city and toward Griffith Park. It feels elevated in every sense.
At the center is Hollyhock House, Frank Lloyd Wright’s first Los Angeles project designed between 1919 and 1921. The design blurs indoor and outdoor space, built for Southern California’s climate long before that became standard practice.
It’s now a National Historic Landmark and part of a UNESCO World Heritage listing, thoughtfully sustained, activated and enhanced by Barnsdall Art Park Foundation (@barnsdallfoundation ).
Today, Barnsdall Art Park comprises:
Hollyhock House.
A public art gallery.
A 300-seat theater.
A junior arts center where kids learn drawing, painting, film, and sculpture.
Outdoor performances under the sky.
This is the kind of park that blends architecture, culture, and neighborhood life in one setting. You can come for a gallery opening, a Shakespeare performance, or just a quiet picnic on the grass.

Come see 𝘙𝘺𝘢𝘯 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘥𝘰: 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘍𝘭𝘺, which the New York Times (@nytimes ) named as one of “5 Standout Shows During Frieze.” As Jonathan Griffin (@jonathangriffin ) describes, “Ryan Preciado, a Los Angeles artist and designer, is a craftsman who draws on high-low influences, and who transgresses boundaries between fine art made for galleries and applied art made for domestic spaces. There is no better environment, perhaps, for his sculptures, textiles and furniture than Hollyhock House, the ornate home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1918 for his patron Aline Barnsdall… Music is important to Preciado; ‘Diary of a Fly’ is titled after a 1930s composition by Béla Bartók that echoes a fly’s frenetic movement. Preciado’s weavings are named for a 1980s album by goth band Bauhaus. Sculptures painted in automotive lacquer nod to Chicano car culture, while an oak and leather chair is a humble tribute to Preciado’s Chumash heritage.”
