Salem's Path
From Advent 2023, Salem's Path is a generously-sized triangular shawl in a rainbow of twenty-five colors. It’s made using a simple slipped stitch colorwork technique that is easy to memorize and follow. The rhythmic slip sequence is constant throughout, and the color progression flows through all twenty-five colors and then back again through a portion of the first ones for balanced movement across the piece.
The shawl is designed to be made with an Advent set, but it would also make a lovely memory shawl using remnants. The rhythmic slipped stitch colorwork technique creates a beautiful and intricate pattern, and its methodical nature makes it a relaxing and meditative project to work on.

🌟Dawn Barker is the creative force behind the new knitting technique, assigned pooling, which she created to reconcile her passion for dyeing variegated yarns and her disdain for knitting them. Through countless hours exploring the dynamics of color pooling and textured stitches, she developed this compelling knitting method that remarkably mimics embroidery on knitted fabric.
🌟Using assigned pooling, organic pooling, and other intriguing texture stitches, she designs clean modern knitwear in classic, deeply saturated colors. A lifelong fiber lover and fine artist, Dawn started Barker Wool in 2017 to share her hand-dyed fine yarns and innovative knitting designs with the world.
🌟She is happiest existing somewhere between the extreme freedom found in dyeing and the order necessary to create useful, wearable designs with her yarn. She lives in Amarillo, Texas with her husband and two sons.

Many of you asked about my Sampler pattern after my online class with @modern.daily.knitting today, so I thought I'd showcase it again for you here.
Sampler is a bias triangle shawl that borrows the look of an embroidered needlework sampler using the innovative technique of Assigned Pooling. Assigned Pooling occurs when a change in texture is isolated within a change in color in a quarter-dyed skein of variegated yarn.
Stockinette Stitch is assigned to the main color to create a smooth backdrop for a sampling of texture stitches assigned to the accent color. Sampler blends my love of linen stitch and stockinette that is used in my Mend pattern and adds in a few beloved aster stitches and nupps. Plus I'm pleased to also introduce two new AP texture stitches: the stem and feather stitches.
I used 2 skeins of our favorite BFL Fingering in the color Redwork for the original, but Script, Ballpoint, Sashiko, Apricity, or Nightfall would be equally beautiful.

Meet the third and final color story in our Advent collection this year:
Bright
Palettes with balanced brights and neutrals are among my very favorites because the neutrals provide structure on which the bright hues can really sing. By using equal proportions of fluorescent brights paired with soft neutrals and light muted tones, this year’s Bright color story will achieve a level of previously unmatched balance and cohesion for celebration and sophistication in one palette.
Remember, we only dye a small number of each set every year, and once they sell out we won't be able to add more.
