As part of @rotterdamarchitectuurmaand this June, we’re opening our studio for a small session with students and early-career designers.
The afternoon moves between the office and the city, starting with a short introduction and a visit to CasaNova and The Muse, guided by our project architect.
Instead of looking back at the design, we focus on what happens next.
Through a hands-on workshop, we’ll explore how a single, targeted intervention could help a building adapt and remain in use over time.
We’ll wrap up with presentations, a conversation, and informal drinks.
Small group, limited spots available. Click the link in our bio to register.

Preparatory works have begun along the Maas for New Maas, the third and final building of the Waterside development. Designed by Barcode Architects, the project marks the completion of the ensemble at the tip of the Oude IJsselmondsehoofd.
The tower will bring 176 homes to a site shaped by the contrast between the open river landscape and the village character of Oud-IJsselmonde.
The design is conceived as a stepped composition of ascending loggias and generous terraces, opening the building towards the water while establishing a clear relationship with its surroundings. At ground level, a publicly accessible harbour terrace connects to the waterbus, alongside a new green park that integrates the development into the wider river landscape.
Construction is set to start soon.

The highest point has been reached for Gebouw M in Zwolle.
Part of our masterplan for Weezenlanden Noord, the project contributes to the transformation of a former post-war housing area into a compact and mixed urban district of around 500 homes.
Gebouw M adds 72 social housing apartments along the canal edge. Its prefabricated concrete structure sets a clear rhythm, while generous terraces open the homes towards the park.
With Gebouw F nearing completion and Gebouw L moving into its next phase, the neighbourhood continues to take shape.

We’re happy to share that our Marina Gardens project in Dresden has won the Excellent Architecture – Residential prize at the German Design Awards 2026.
The Marina Gardens project, designed by Knerer und Lang and Barcode Architects, is located along the Elbe River. It forms a new residential quarter composed of four gently articulated building blocks arranged around the historic Villa Grumbt. A curving inner garden landscape defines the ensemble, opening up views towards the river. The design brings together polymorphic architecture, careful urban integration, and a strong relationship to landscape, offering generous outdoor spaces for social interaction.
The quarter comprises 210 homes, each connected to balconies or terraces that extend living spaces outward. From these elevated edges and the shared courtyard below, residents engage directly with the surrounding landscape and the city beyond, reinforcing the project’s strong connection to its riverside setting and everyday urban life.
We would like to thank all partners involved in the project for their contribution to the realisation of Marina Gardens.
Special thanks also go to the Landeshauptstadt Dresden for their support.
This award marks an important milestone for the project.

Construction is progressing on Metterswane, a mixed-use project designed by Barcode Architects, located directly next to Nijmegen Central Station.
Shaped by its position within a major public transport node, Metterswane is conceived as a welcoming entrance to the city. As cities continue to densify around rail infrastructure, it explores how development at public nodes can support mobility, reduce car dependency, and strengthen station areas as integral parts of everyday urban life.
Housing, offices, retail, and amenities are brought together in a compact structure that responds to pedestrian movement, transit connections, and the rhythms of daily life. This mix supports more continuous use throughout the day, extending activity beyond peak travel hours.

As the year draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on work that continues to evolve. Waterside III moves toward construction, while Glasfabriek Schiedam remains an ongoing focus, with multiple buildings now entering the next stage of development.
Thank you to our colleagues, collaborators, clients, and partners for everything we’ve built together this year.
Looking ahead to 2026, we expect a period of change, with new projects unfolding, familiar ones moving forward, and new conversations beginning.
Happy Holidays from Barcode Architects!
Completed earlier this year, Stadtforum Dresden centralises the city’s public services within a single civic centre on Ferdinandplatz. Designed together with Tchoban Voss Architekten, the building opens to the city through three large urban windows framing views to the Rathaus, Ferdinandplatz and the Großer Garten.
Two green courtyards bring daylight and calm deep into the office floors, while a public foyer, auditorium and conference level create an open environment for visitors and staff.
The project forms part of the wider redevelopment of Ferdinandplatz, building on our earlier masterplan vision for the area. Stadtforum Dresden was recently awarded the BNB Silver certification for its ecological and technical performance.
The project was realised in collaboration with @zueblin_official and @dresslerbaugmbh , Kommunale Immobilien Dresden (KID) and @landeshauptstadt_dresden .
