Twenty years ago, four zoo animals escaped from Central Park Zoo and became a globally loved franchise.
The man behind it all? Eric Darnell.
Before Madagascar, Eric co-directed Antz, DreamWorks' very first computer-animated film. He then spent a decade building a franchise that earned nine Annie Award nominations and gave us one of the most quotable soundtracks in animation history.
What makes Eric's career remarkable is his ability to create characters that stick. The penguins started as a throwaway gag. A few seconds of screen time. Now they're a TV empire and still circulating as memes 20 years later. Great characters last far beyond the credits.
Today, Eric is our Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer at Baobab Studios, applying everything he learned from two decades at DreamWorks to building new franchises from the ground up.
