A burglar might seem an unlikely poster boy for a security company, but Burglar Bill is part of Banham’s 100-year heritage.
From the real-life burglars invited to test our first locks in 1931 - they failed to pick them, and were promptly arrested by Scotland Yard - to the mime-artist who stopped traffic by winking at passers-by from the window of our London showroom, and our very first slogan: “Why Fear Burglars?" established one year later.

To celebrate our centenary, we’re honouring our roots in London, England, where William F. Banham invented his very first lock (and the world’s first automatic doorbolt) in 1926, and where we’ve been innovating ever since.
