"But, rational" presents a series of sculptural paintings that playfully challenge the boundaries between painting and sculpture, order and chaos, intention and accident. Through a labor-intensive process of layering, cutting, and reassembling latex paint, the works transform a familiar material—liquid paint—into tactile, dimensional objects that record time, labor, and chance.

Author Julio Cortázar described literature as “the game one can put one’s life into.” In this workshop, we will work collaboratively and independently to generate strange and surprising texts using techniques from the world of game design. Each participant will also leave the class having created their own custom oracle, a highly personalized tool to accompany them into future writing projects.

Jenny Wu’s sculptural paintings are anything but flat, and the works in But, Rational defy all expectations of painting as a medium. Fragmented jewel-like shards intermingle like piles of gems. Undulating, striated bands traverse across surface#painters_pro otic, geometric patterns entrance – all with a three-dimensionality more akin to sculpture than painting. You have to see these in person to get the full effect!

Join us for an afternoon of reading and conversation with award-winning authors Jedediah Berry and Ryan Habermeyer as they share their latest work and discuss what drives their writing. Q&A and book signing to follow. Habermeyer's Necronauts debuted this spring and Berry's The Naming Song won many awards including the 2025 Massachusett's Book Award for Fiction.
Final weekend to immerse yourself in Margaret Roleke's astonishing work over at the Workshop Gallery in Building 3. Add on a stroll or a cycle on the Farmington Canal Linear Trail or grab an ice cream while you're here! Gallery hours are 12-4 pm today, Saturday and Sunday.
