Some snippets from the web system we built for Phantom, from phantom.com to new product sites for Phantom Connect and Cash. Our process for complex web projects like these runs in three layers. → The foundation aligns brand, content, design, and engineering into a shared architecture before anything is built. → The system turns that into components, grids, and patterns that scale. → The expression gives it a voice: the interactions, motion, and narrative frameworks that make it behave as distinctly as it looks. In practice these layers are intertwined: strategy shapes design, design shapes code, and code defines what’s possible in both. That’s what allows a site to grow without slowly losing itself. For a client like Phantom, scale is what matters most. We designed the system not just for the first launch, but for the many pages and products that follow. That means embedding content strategies, motion principles, and interaction layers into the technical architecture from the start. The handover between motion and code is where a lot of this lives or dies, and tightening that interplay is something we’re actively investing in at BB.

On May 8, our Design Director Tim Wan will be speaking at AI in Practice, a conference hosted by Abadir Academy and Università di Catania bringing together academics, artists, developers and philosophers to discuss AI and creativity. Tim will be sharing insights from the studio floor: how we’ve integrated AI into our brand and web projects, what we’ve learned about its advantages and limitations, and some practical advice for the next generation of designers entering a profession shaped by these tools. New position! ✨ We are looking for a senior Art Director to lead and evolve our approach to image-led storytelling. This is a role for someone who understands how photography, film, illustration, CGI, motion, and digital systems come together to build coherent and culturally sharp brand worlds.  We care deeply about craft, a sharp eye for contemporary visual culture, and small egos with huge hearts. If that resonates, we’d love to hear from you. Currently envisioned as a remote freelance role, with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent position. Open to candidates based in, or willing to relocate to, Oslo, Amsterdam, Bonn, Barcelona or London. 🧳 Link in bio to apply.

New city, new team, and a new home from home. A lot of BB-ers move across the world to join us. We try to make it feel easy. From visas and housing to language classes and a relocation bonus, we’ve got you covered. We’re a social, welcoming bunch, and many of us have called more than one of our cities—London, Barcelona, Oslo, Amsterdam and Bonn—home along the way. It’s part of what makes BB, well, BB. Head to our A-Z → Relocation to read more.

Over the years, we’ve built tools that let us explore visual languages, generating textures, type treatments, and variations we couldn’t have arrived at by hand. These tools help us make more informed and more creative decisions, across disciplines. They also help our clients stay inside the system we created for them, while still giving them room to move. A selection of tools we recently built to explore texture, type, and visual variation across multiple projects.

Last month, we hosted PING!—Talks on Talking Machines at our London office 🔊! We touched on the history of voice technologies and BB’s journey into voice and AI, Mark Laratt introduced wysp and the question of how to design navigation that keeps you present in the world, and Louise K. Wilson brought us back to the ping: the sound that came before machines learned to speak like us. Thanks to everyone who came, listened, and stayed for the conversation after! We had a lovely time. We’ll share more insights from the talks soon. For now, here’s a short a recap video! 🎥

Explorations from the cutting room floor ✂️ As part of a website redesign for a renowned arts and culture app, we explored how the brand’s geometric elements (squares, triangles, circles) could be translated to functional design elements throughout the interface. Think: bullet indicators, subtle micro-interactions or image containers with hover states. To convey the app’s vast catalogue, we experimented with two approaches: an infinite carousel cycling through imagery, and an archival-style directory that communicates scale at a glance. Some of these explorations made it into the final design, the rest remain experiments worth sharing! More on the full project soon 👀
