January 2016 was the most life-changing month of my life. This first image is from that time. I had just moved to Canada, without fully understanding how profoundly everything would shift. To say the following decade was challenging would be an understatement. It took me nearly six years just to feel the ground beneath my feet without crumbling under terror and all-consuming panic.
The immigrant experience is transformative and unforgiving. I truly don’t know how I would have survived without the humans I met here. As time passed, I softened and slowly found myself again in this new space. The last few years have been the happiest of my life. Now, I hope that every morning is filled with the same love we felt the day we got Nina.
