After a tough preseason Baird looked to start with a win. Despite a bare bones squad with no CBs we knew the 3 points would be easy. We were right. Baird started strong and didn’t give “Spewing” a sniff. As their keeper struggled to kick the ball 30 yards, we took a well deserved lead through Jonny with a tidy finish. The second half got ugly as Spewing realised they were no match for the boys in black and white. Their only threat was a couple long shots from their only good player in the middle. Our “little man” ran rings around them and they couldn’t get near. Baird put in some fantastic challenges and they simply did not want it. Not sure what game Spewing thought they were in today as they got completely outplayed. More foul throws than shots on target. They also did a not so excellent job at keeping their composure at the end as they hurled abuse at the Baird bench for 20 minutes. Unfortunately they’ll have to firm this loss as they inevitably go into yet another relegation battle in division 2. Know your place boys - especially you Giles. Maybe daddy could buy you some kits for next week. Huge shoutout to Ben and Haakon for filling in at centre back who were excellent today.

A sad day for Baird today. A fortunate first goal closely followed by a lovely strike saw @pefitbaw lead 2-0 early. Despite a dominant second half performance we couldn’t convert our chances when they came. We may be relegated but at least we don’t study PE. Enjoy the rounders lads. We think if @gozf_edi have any balls they’ll play us on Friday.

“Sometimes you‘ve got to hold your hands up and admit you were beat by a better team. Today wasn’t one of those days.” A dominant performance from the Buffaloes saw it end 3-2 to a strong @southsideathleticfc team. Week’s ruined. We go again next week. Shoutout to our MOTM @jamie_w_s for a top performance in net.

Baird 9 - 2 ESALA FC 30/10/2022 Fresh off the back of a promising opening win of the season vs Doo Barmie, the Buffaloes looked to continue their fine start to the season against an ESALA side who managed to do the double over us last year, including an out of character 7-1 drubbing. The weather was wet and cold which made for a slippy, quick grass pitch for the second week running and the masses who came out to support were expecting a fast game. The buff delivered on this wish from the first whistle, with our high speed attacking play causing real issues for the opposition. Chances kept on coming in the first half and we eventually took the lead through Dan who had been doing his best Lukaku (21/22 season) impression for 20 minutes. A flurry of chances missed somehow kept ESALA in the game but Xavier with an unnecessarily flying header from a corner gave us the 2 goal cushion we deserved. Dan then got his second of the match and third of the season, making it 3-0 to the Baird and making it difficult to see a way back for ESALA. The 4th came courtesy of Louis with a lovely finish, getting his first goal for Baird. Just before half time our concentration slipped and we let ESALA in to make it 4-1, nonetheless a strong first half showing from the boys. Subs were introduced and the game opened up even more second half, Louis grabbed a second early on and despite his best efforts couldn’t get that elusive third goal for his hat trick. The midfield maestro eventually managed to do so making it 6-1 to the boys in black and white. Xavier then got his second and Baird’s 7th, equalling Dan on 3 in the golden boot race. However Mr Morrice didn’t let this last long and got his third soon after, completing a perfect hat trick with a right foot, left foot and headed finish. CONTINUED BELOW ⬇️

Baird Buffaloes 3-1 Doo Barmie ⚫️⚪️ vs 🍁 23/10/22 After a summer of many comings and goings in the Baird camp and a gruelling trials process - expectations were high for the beginning of a new season and the return of the most competitive league in Edinburgh was most welcomed by the Buffaloes. A mix of new faces along with some Baird legends took to the pitch to face the same old Doo Barmie side from last season. A rearranged kick off time of 2pm was agreed after the Stoners didn’t seem to have much of an appetite for a 9am kick off. Shunted out onto the grass instead of the delicious 3G, the warm yet wet conditions promised a great game for all. A quick start from Baird, suffocating our opponents and winning the ball back at every opportunity, things were looking good. Captain America with his first competitive game with the armband led from the front, and made the Spliffs pay early on with a lovely cut inside and finish past the clueless keeper - a great start to life as Dictator for Xav and early shouts for Golden Boot winner after 10 minutes of the new season were definitely running through the Yank’s head. The opposition began to settle into the game and played some nice stuff, but the resolute back 4 of Miguel “what a goal” Ángel, Felix, Hamish and Haakon proved to be a barrier no one could break through. Debutants Louis and Paddy were running the midfield and knocking it around nicely, and the strike force looked sharp with some lovely balls in behind causing some problems for the opponent’s weirdly high line. The Route 1 approach eventually paid dividends right before half time and after surviving a sustained period of pressure thanks to a cracking Lachlan save, Hamish broke out like a prime Franco Baresi to intercept and skip past 1, 2 and play a delightful through ball to Dan Bolt on the wing. A perfect first touch and brilliant weak foot finish gave Baird the all important 2 goal lead and provided the onlooking Mr and Mrs Morrice with a proud moment seeing their son bag, for the second time this weekend… CONTINUED BELOW ⬇️

🚨RECRUITMENT FOR NEW SIGNINGS FOR THE 22/23 SEASON HAS BEGUN🚨 We are currently in the middle of our recruitment process for Baird Buffaloes FC for the 2022/23 season. We are an Edinburgh based club that is registered as an intra-mural organisation through the university (though it is not essential to be a student to join the team). We compete in the Sunday (A) division and play matches every week and train once a week as a team too (usually Wednesdays). Team socials also come as part of being a Buffalo. If you want to check out a little bit more about us or see what we get up to, have a scroll through this page and see what you think. As of right now we are looking at gathering new recruits for a trial session either w/c 12th Sept or w/c 19th Sept. Trials will be held by senior members of the team and the committee and will act as a perfect chance for you to showcase your skills but also your personality on the pitch. A good level of football ability is important but just as important as that is your attitude and application. We want to go far as a club and are building a strong unit and identity, ideally we want guys who feel they’ll be able to slot into that and get on well with the team. 11 a-side experience useful but not essential. **New goalkeepers is our priority position for this season** If you or anyone you know may be interested in trialling, direct message this page and we will provide some more details as well as updating you on more info about the trials as and when we have decided. Cheers, The Baird Committee 🦬⚪️⚫️

🦬Baird 4-0 Spansoc🇪🇸 Due to an unseen set of circumstances and further fucking about from those who run the league, the mighty Baird kicked off the new season with the intriguing challenge of Spansoc FC at Duddingston last Sunday. Coming off the back of that enormous win against PE the week prior - the boys fully intended to take this momentum into a new season for a title charge. Despite knowing our Spanish opponents had only been promoted after semester 2 and this was the first game in the “big leagues”, we expected a strong outfit with some easy-on-the-eye Tiki-Taka football on show. With no complacency in the air, we started strong and got right in their faces from the first whistle. With the sun beaming down from above onto quite possibly the worst pitch I’ve ever seen - it wasn’t going to be an easy afternoon but the support from our loyal fan base pushed us on to grab 2 early goals through star striker Scott. Both well-worked and delightfully finished - we managed to gain a stronghold on the game that we didn’t feel like letting slip. A somewhat sloppy first half with a lot of long balls/ping-pong headers at times ended with Baird 2 goals to the good. CONTINUED BELOW⬇️

Baird 3-1 PE A blistering hot Edinburgh day was the setting for a historic Baird W. Showing up at Duddingston with spirits high, ready for battle - a mudbath of a pitch, no nets and no ref quickly ruined any expectations we had for a high quality encounter. A referee was eventually scouted, and half an hour later than we had hoped - Kick Off. And despite these early setbacks, the Buff started strongly. Winning our individual battles all over the pitch and creating some good clear-cut chances - we couldn’t quite capitalise on our early pressure. Our front 4 of Scott, Xavier, Ruben and Dan with the support of PJ and Hamish (Xavi and Iniesta) behind linking up beautifully to pin PE back led to numerous great openings though our composure and poise in the final third let us down. You could tell the boys were up for it, and with the attackers looking dangerous, the midfield comfortably winning the most important battle on the pitch, and a back 4 of Haakon, Felix, Luke and Thomas looking extremely solid - we fancied it. Half time came with the score deadlocked at 0-0 but serious momentum and a rousing half time speech from Committee members Euan, Kash (dressed like a Donkey as shown above) and Hummza inspired the boys to keep the fight going second 45. We started the 2nd period just as we finished the 1st, winning the 50/50s and knocking on the door again and again. Finally the breakthrough came courtesy of a delightful chipped through ball over the top from PJ which led to a first touch of absolute filth from Dan, who ran through on goal and finished just like a man who’s on course to win the Baird Golden Boot. 10-7 now Xavier😉. Our huge celebrations sat the PE wankers right down. However, almost straight from kick-off, our concentration slipped and the opposition hit back with a well-worked goal despite an absolutely enormous hint of offside. The referee, solid throughout the game, certainly missed this one. CONTINUED BELOW ⬇️

Enjoying a nice Sunday evening after a routine 3 points against a very mediocre PE side. We even went down to 10 men for half an hour to try and make it more of an even playing field, but it’s a shame that PE couldn’t take advantage. We’d recommend that the PE side squeeze in some extra training sessions if they are to try and compete again, it’s the least you’d expect from one of the so called “big boys”. Up the Baird 🐃

Big shift from all the boys today in a 2-0 win against @fcedinbros under the floodlights on a beautiful Sunday evening at peffermill but big shout-out to the joint MOTM @rubenwhitelaw and @hamishbuist The match started with the Buffaloes in control of the ball, keeping possession in the opponent's half. Some slick passing amongst a midfield trio of Hamish, Haakon and Rueben led to some decent chances for the front three but Edinbros low block was able to limit the danger. A strong back line performance from Rory, Kash, Felix, and former president Dan kept the danger away from Lachlan who only needed to make one save in the first half. As the second half commenced the game opened up with Chris and Andy working the right side delivering in solid chances which ultimately provided a break through scored by debutant Schuyler who calmly slotted home a beautiful ball across the face of goal. Kash got the pre-assist for the first goal btw with a brilliant first time through ball switch to the right wing to unleash Chris. The Baird back line was able to hold off a short push from Edinbros to equalize until the Buffaloes reaffirmed their strong grasp of the game. Ruben drew a foul 35 meters away from goal and with the lights shining down from the heavens and the city of Edinburgh chanting his name, Xavier quickly took the free kick lobbing the keeper and striking joy into the hearts of all. Chants of star-boy reigned from all directions for the only man with the gumption to perform the impossible. The fight continued for 20 minutes after the Buffaloes had secured a brace and the chances did not stop. Unfortunately Buffaloes soon to be ex-president was on the end of them. One onlooker described watching Kash whiff time and time again as if he were a blindfolded child attempting to hit a piñata. As the full time whistle blew, the Buffaloes celebrated their victory with the hundreds of supporters gathered to watch them play.
