KURDISTAN IS A COLOR
SPRING 2023
KURDISTAN IS A COLOR is a celebration of Kurdish identity - its strength, resilience, and the translation of our collective emotions into form. Honoring our shared memory, grief, and hope, this project becomes more than a collection - it is an act of resistance. As Kurdish people face oppression, displacement and cultural erasure, I seek to reclaim space, amplify Kurdish voices, and increase our visibility in a world that tries to silence us.
Each piece is my interpretation of traditional Kurdish clothing, reimagined through contemporary forms and materials. By merging heritage with innovation and working with repurposed packaging, silk, combed yarn, and Nuno felting, I explore the relationship between material and meaning. Plastic, silk, and wool - different yet equal - merge into something new, just as we, as Kurds, continue to resist, endure, and exist - no matter the circumstances.
This is for those who refuse to be silenced. For those who carry their culture with pride. For those who dream of a free and self-determined future. Our colors will never fade. ❤️☀️💚
