@bads_lab returns for a third year with Maroon Infrastructures, featuring experiments with signals, soils, and the soul that animates them. The work moves from Chicago in May to São Paulo in August to Dar es Salaam in November, beginning at the Land School. A handful of spots remain in the Chicago cohort. Write to [email protected]. Excited that @ibraazlondon published this sonic artifact of this wide-ranging project, incubated @bads_lab and @ccam_chicago . "Futurhythmachines: Infopoiēsis" is a decolonial sound experiment that translates global datasets of inequality, extraction, and climate instability into live sonic instruments. Built with custom software that converts data into wave-table oscillators and control signals driving beat-slicers loaded with sampled breaks, the work draws from Black electronic music traditions – where improvisation, errantry, and polymetry become vehicles of thought. Besides the soundscape, the Ibraaz piece has links to the software, user manual, and theoretical essay from the project's interactive workshops. 🔊🔊🔊 I am excited to present "Fugitive Erotics - A girly*** Mix" — an hourlong work by @jsbxse , 2024 @bads_lab fellow Jared Brown (a.k.a. girly***). Emerging from dialogues, research, and experiments conducted during BADS_lab 2024 and subsequent Futurhythmachines workshops, my latest book, Fugitive Erotics: Black Rites of Breakage & Repair, explores erotic desire as a dynamic, world-making force that resists containment and (re-)creates sensuality and intimacy in the break. The book also considers how Black electronic dance musics — house, techno, jungle, and more — inherit and extend Afro-diasporic spiritual practices whose subliminal and sublime forces persist within, and insist upon, the sonic. Formed within urban and digital landscapes, these musics diffract ancestral African rhythms, producing new patterns of pulse and participatory antiphony (call-and-response). The hourlong mix by 2024 BADS_lab fellow Jared Brown (a.k.a. girly***) interrogates and extends the book’s meditations on Black electronic dance musics. Bass, vocal samples, synths, vinyl, and community allow girly*** to bend time and bridge gaps between genres bred in the Midwest, Baltimore, the UK, the Tri-State area, and cyberspace. Listeners should expect the unexpected from a girly*** set. Every blend may not be perfect, but every blend will be poetic. No contexto da 36a bienal de $P, a História da Disputa convida para um percurso-ativação partindo da praça Antonio Prado. Como fellows do @bads_lab nossa proposta é presentificar sujeitos e práticas soterrados pelo desejo de urbanização e modernidade da cidade, em um ritual de memória e presença.
