Bade Fuwa 🇳🇬 (@badefuwa ) is a Nigerian fine art and storytelling photographer. He uses his lens to explore the intersections of identity, spirituality, and the emotional resonance of the human experience. #RuumSpotlight Fuwa marks his greatest professional milestone as the discipline of picking up his camera every single week to maintain a consistent, evolving body of work. Drawing inspiration from grief and the limits of language, Fuwa’s visual philosophy centres on figures encountering spiritual presences and reflections of the self. His process is deeply intentional — sketching thoughts before bringing them to life through nature-aligned imagery. Discover Fuwa ⭐ on 54Ruum.com #Nigeria #Photography #54Ruum $#TheRuumAfrica

At @vital.impacts , we believe art and visual journalism are not just tools for awareness—they are catalysts for real-world change. We’re grateful to work alongside mentors like David Walter Banks (@davidwalterbanks ), whose guidance has been an essential part of the Vital Impacts fellowship community for the past two years. A photographer and author of Trembling Earth, David is based in Atlanta, Georgia. His work spans stylized portraiture and documentary storytelling, grounded in care, dignity, and presence. This year, David is collaborating with Bade Fuwa (@badefuwa ), supporting the development of long-term, community-rooted environmental storytelling. “I’m a colleague that you have unfettered access to—to be obsessed with your work, talk it through, and brainstorm,” David shared. “I’m here to be a resource, and to grow and learn with you.” Mentors like David make this fellowship possible and nurture environmental storytellers through trust, collaboration, and sustained care. 📷: @davidwalterbanks

Celebrating Bade Fuwa (@badefuwa ), a 2026 Vital Impacts Environmental Photography Fellow.
Bade’s year-long project, What Holds Us, is rooted in Lagos’ coastal communities, documenting the everyday acts of care that sustain life along the water. From fishermen adapting to changing tides to elders teaching youth to replant mangroves, his work centers resilience shaped by memory, tradition, and responsibility.
Moving between expansive coastal landscapes and intimate daily moments, Bade reveals how environmental change is lived—and resisted—at the human scale.
Through this fellowship, Bade will continue documenting these interconnected lives across a full cycle of seasons, creating a body of work that honors ecological fragility and grassroots strength.
He will receive one-on-one guidance from stylized portraiture and documentary photographer, David Walter Banks (@davidwalterbanks ).
At Vital Impacts, we believe storytelling plays a critical role in protecting people, cultures, and ecosystems. At a time when environmental journalism is increasingly underfunded and frontline communities are often unheard, we exist to build meaningful partnerships that support long-term, community-rooted work.
 Endless gratitude to our judges: @alessiaglaviano , @azubogu , @patkanephoto , @evgenia_arbugeva , and @kfmoran .

WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT: Bade Fuwa – Cluster Photography Residency 2025 We’re proud to name @badefuwa as the WINNER of this year’s Cluster Photography Artist-in-Residence. Bade’s practice stood out for its ability to weave silence, resilience, and memory into images that reflect both beauty and loss. His work explores our relationship with nature and forgotten spaces — inviting us to pause and consider how we live with (and neglect) the world around us. Chosen for his depth of vision and commitment to storytelling, Bade embodies what the residency is about: artistic growth, exchange, and creating work that resonates far beyond the image. 👉 Swipe through to discover why his practice captured our jury’s attention, and tap the link in bio to read our full interview with Bade. #ClusterPhotographyResidency #ClusterWinner2025 #ContemporaryPhotography #FineArtPhotography #VisualNarrative #PhotographyCommunity #ArtistResidency

I lived in Sodom When I first began experimenting with photography, it felt like the purest, most expressive way to tell stories. And now experimenting with FLORA, it seems to be a similar moment. I can generate images and videos almost indistinguishable from reality. For me, the beauty lies here: in discovering how still images can be transformed into living moving sequences — how photographs can be still and unfold like moving poems. Videos created with FLORA @florafaunaai Images created with Adobe Lightroom @lightroom & Adobe Photoshop @photoshop Thanks to @tarshaakrishnaraj

SHORTLISTED: Bade Fuwa – Cluster Photography Residency 2025 As we continue highlighting our shortlisted artists this week, we arrive at the deeply moving practice of @badefuwa . Based in Lagos, Bade works in fine art and experimental portraiture, often moving fluidly between dreams, sketches, and spontaneous moments. His practice began during a time marked by paralysis, loss, and displacement — photography became survival, a way to process what words could not hold. His shortlisted proposal continues this journey, exploring the stillness of trees, bodies, and objects that carry silence within them. Through these images, Bade seeks to create conversations with pain, with wonder, and with the traces of life that linger in quiet resilience. What emerges is work that doesn’t ask to be understood, but instead reminds us — in sadness, in beauty — that we are still here. #ClusterPhotographyResidency #ClusterShortlist2025 #ContemporaryPhotography #PhotographyCommunity #VisualNarrative #FineArtPhotography #GriefAndMemory
