I wasn’t fully satisfied with the original grey background. It felt muted, like the work was holding its breath. I’ve been thinking about revisiting it for months, and the reality of how flat it looked on screens finally pushed me to act. I shifted the background to yellow to bring the figure forward and let the painting breathe. The new version sits closer to what I imagined from the start. #africanart #heritage #contemporaryart #nigeria #maskart #acrylic #geometry #colors #portraits #ancestraltradition #people #wooden #culturalheritage #artseries

There are moments when unity feels less like strength and more like performance, a ritual we repeat to keep from seeing how far apart we’ve drifted. I’ve been thinking about how belief in togetherness survives even when trust doesn’t, how exhaustion becomes its own kind of prayer. Fracture is the relationship between hope and fatigue, the space between who we think we are as a people and what we keep proving to ourselves. The illusion of unity holds, thin but shining, because without it there would be nothing left to stand on. It breaks my heart that we live performative togetherness as Nigerians. As always, we rely on hope, that one day we will identify as Nigerians before we take pride in our ethnicity and social status. “In this self-portrait, I’ve multiplied myself, a visual representation of the introspective journey that mirrors the August Meeting. Just as Igbo women gather annually to reflect on their community’s past and plan for its future, I often find myself retracing my steps and envisioning new paths. By portraying myself in multiple forms, I aim to capture the essence of this personal and communal process of renewal.“ The August Meeting is a special event for Igbo women. Every year, they come together in their hometowns to talk about important things for their community. They wear the same attire to show equality as they discuss problems, plan projects, and celebrate their culture. Title: August meeting Size: 47x31 inches Medium: Acrylic and oil on canvas

Part 4 Final look of the mural. I broke the process into 4 parts so every stage could breathe on its own. From the first sketch to the last brushstroke, every layer had a reason. Sometimes the finished piece is beautiful, but the real story lives in the process.

Part 3 This is where the flow state takes over. You get so into it… you almost forget why you started in the first place. It stops being about paint and starts feeling like you’re just trying to keep up with the idea.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Amen. Happy Birthday Bugzzy ❤️🥳
