When a game of telephone thankfully goes right! ☎️ When @gabi_lamontagne , a contact of @danaandthecats , reached out because she heard on the grapevine there was a mom and kittens born in a basement in Bed Stuy that may need some help, we were able to connect the dots that this was a pregnant cat that @backyardcatsofbedstuy had been trying to rescue via a different neighbor before she gave birth. While we are very glad that mama Gyoza and her 5 baby dumplings are here and that they’re healthy, lord KNOWS we already have too many kittens to worry about in this world! Once these babies are weaned, mom will be spayed, never to be pregnant again. She’ll find a home and her babies will be adopted in pairs (or to a home that already has a young cat for them to befriend!). That’s a long way off though, and for now we’re just focusing on getting them fat and doughy! Thank you so much to @pharmdfelines for stepping up to foster this family and giving them a safe landing pad 🥰 More to come on these little ones, just you wait! 🥟

Teddy Update, 3 days post rear leg amputation! Teddy is doing amazing. The first day was definitely the hardest, lots of pain and rest, but within 48 hours he was already feeling so much more like himself. He’s mostly on cage rest right now, with some carefully supervised adventure time. This morning, I took his cone off so he could eat breakfast with all of his new Bravest Friends, and he immediately chose chaos in the best way. He wanted to explore the house, sniff every single cat he encountered (with a few well-deserved hisses for the extra nosy ones), and then promptly decided it was couch time. He curled up to snuggle and watch the snow fall like nothing had ever happened. 🥹 Teddy will be with us for another 7–10 days here at Milo’s Bravest Friends, slowly increasing his time out of cage rest as he continues to heal. Once his sutures are removed, he’ll head home to his absolutely amazing parents. We are so, so proud of this brave boy. Three days post-op and already reminding us all how resilient cats truly are. 💙

Dash Update 💙 Tomorrow is a big day for our brave little man, his front leg amputation is finally happening. ❤️🐾 We are so ready for this next step for him. He has been such a trooper through strict cage rest… truly, strict. About 23 hours a day with only supervised time in our arms so he doesn’t hurt himself further. This boy cannot wait to be free and finally start feeling comfortable again. It’s been a long road already, but this surgery is what will let Dash move forward and live the happy, pain-free life he deserves. We love him so much and we’re cheering him on every step of the way. If you’d like to help us get Dash across this finish line, you can donate through the GoFundMe linked in @backyardcatsofbedstuy profile, or through any of our usual donation channels with a note “For Dash.” Every single bit truly helps. 💛 Thank you for loving him with us. Send all the good vibes for tomorrow! ✨🐈‍⬛

Dash Update 💛 This week, we had our consultation with the orthopedic surgeon, and they were absolutely incredible as always… thorough, kind, and really took their time walking us through everything. In the last couple of weeks, Dash’s injury has actually “healed” quite a bit, and the callus on the fracture is partly formed. But because this injury is older and the bone healed completely severed, a lot of the muscle in his leg has sadly already atrophied and shortened significantly. The surgeon explained that if they attempted to repair the leg with pins, the remaining muscle simply wouldn’t be long or strong enough to reconnect from shoulder to knee properly. Even if the repair “worked,” he’d have very little range of motion in the knee and would not be able to use the leg properly. For long-term comfort, mobility, and quality of life, their recommendation is amputation. After the consultation, I called our other vet, the same wonderful doctor who performed Guppy’s amputation, and he agreed with the assessment. Dash is officially scheduled for surgery on December 15th. This decision wasn’t made lightly. It was made together with Nicole from @backyardcatsofbedstuy , and most importantly, with his foster-turned-future-forever family @_m.aya . Dash is so loved, and every choice has been made with his future in mind. For now, Dash will stay here at Milo’s Bravest Friends on strict cage rest until surgery. His leg is very fragile at this point. He’ll recover with us for his first couple of weeks post-op, and then he’ll head home to his parents, who are already completely in love with him and ready to give him the life he deserves. Our brave little buddy has such a bright future ahead. 💛🐾

Meet Milo’s newest Bravest Friend: Dash! Yep… another Dash! 😂💛 Dash is just 7 months old and has already lived through more than most cats ever will. After losing his mama and surviving outside with a painful limp, his rescuers finally managed to trap him and get him safe. They knew he needed help fast. Nicole at @backyardcatsofbedstuy jumped in, truly a superhero, and made sure he got the vetting and care he desperately needed. And then Lizzie @carroll.street.cat.club (who brought us Chicory 💕) heard his story and shared it with us. I love the cat rescue community… it really takes all of us. Through all of that, Dash is now here at Milo’s. And oh boy… he’s been THROUGH IT. Right after his neuter, while still dazed, he somehow unzipped his carrier and squeezed himself inside a car dashboard (yes, really). A dealership literally had to take the whole dashboard apart to free him. When his limp still wasn’t improving, X-rays shockingly revealed why: he has a fractured humerus that healed incorrectly while he was alone outside. It’s fully broken, painful, and the only way to fix it is orthopedic surgery. So Dash came to us at Milo’s Bravest Friends so he can get: ✨ specialized orthopedic surgery ✨ close monitoring during recovery ✨ pain management ✨ physical therapy and mobility support ✨ and the structured post-op care that can make or break a case like his He’ll be with us short-term, just long enough to finally heal, and then he’ll go back home to the family who already adores him. ❤️ But this surgery is expensive. Thousands of dollars, and truly urgent. His foster parents and @backyardcatsofbedstuy have already started a GoFundMe and raised quite a bit of money…and yet we are still about $3500 short!! Our amazing surgeon was able to squeeze him in for pre-op TOMORROW, but we need to raise funds! If you’re able to help us give Dash the pain-free future he deserves, we would be so grateful. Donate at either the gofundme in @backyardcatsofbedstuy profile or through our donate link, any donations that come in this week will be going directly to Dash! He’s fought so hard to survive… now it’s our turn to fight for him. 💛🐾

Can someone step up for Chester? He’s one of the cats we pulled off the block where almost an entire colony was poisoned (see our previous posts). His vet notes said he had “bite wounds everywhere” — it was clear he didn’t belong outside. Chester was thriving in his 2 weeks inside but is now losing his foster with no notice. We have no place to go for him, so he’ll have to go back into a crate. Chester is 14 lbs of pure love and wants to be on the couch next to you. Chester will do best in a home without other cats for now — or he can crash in your bathroom. He’s about 5, neutered, up to date on vaccines, treated for fleas and parasites and negative for FeLV. He’s FIV+ and asymptomatic. (FIV poses no risk to people or other animals; FIV+ cats can live with negative cats as long as there are no fights with deep bite wounds.) If you can open your home to him, please apply here and mention Chester as the cat and Suse as the rescuer.

A quick update on Pumpkin Seed, one of the cats we trapped last week on the deadly block, so he wouldn’t fall victim to poisoning. Pumpkin Seed went to the neuter clinic as a feral cat because he was growling and hiding in the trap. But since being upgraded to a crate 2 days ago and getting daily snacks, this boy is building more and more trust. Today he’s slow blinking, taking treats from our hands, and snoozing with humans sitting next to him — all signs that he’s feeling safe. With huge thanks to our rescue community, we can send Pumpkin Seed to foster this week. The plan for Melon Seed and Lil Chloe is still coming together. We will keep you updated. Thank you so much for all the support!❤️🖤
