But that’s what I love about the ocean - it’s wild 🌊 and nothing is guaranteed. You might surface having seen absolutely nothing or you might have a “dive on speed” and see everything you’ve ever dreamed of 💭
Who doesn’t love going diving to spot something exciting - hammerheads, mantas, whale sharks 💥 but if you don’t see them…oh well 🤷🏼♀️ You’re still lucky enough to be in the ocean, floating and weightless, letting go of everything from the real world and having time to explore the depths…that’s enough for me✨
If you have a list of marine animals you want to have completely ticked off in a 7 day trip you’re probably going to be disappointed 😂 It’s a combination of luck, right place right time and a hugeeee amount of patience
People always say “You go diving? In the ocean? With SHARKS?” … and my response is usually “Yeah hopefully” 🦈🦈🦈 If you see sharks during your dive you have luck on your side 🍀 It’s a privilege to see them - remember, it’s their world and we are just part-time visitors 🤍

At the weekend we had an incredible day taking the rib out to Isle of May with @daynad87 (📸 creds) & @jacoballenadventure 🌊

We had a fantastic couple of dives - perfect conditions, lovely conditions…if not a little chilly 🥶 After diving we decided to do a little lap round the island before heading back to the harbour and came across a huggeee grey seal colony 🦭(easily 100+) !!! and went for a little snorkel with them 🤿 unreal!

It’s been a WHILE…..almost 2 years 🤯…
This time has been incredibly exciting and that’s the only reason I can think for why it’s taken so long to post…not for lack of pics 💭
The next chapter is starting for us so we’d like to get Backpack Divers up and running again 💦 🌊 🌍 🗺️ 🧭 ✈️ 🩵
Here’s a quick dump of what we’ve been up to the last 2 laps of the sun ☀️
1. Began a career in yachting
2. Got engaged !!
3. Went diving with 9 tiger sharks
4. Planned shark diving expeditions
5. Served dinner with sharks as +1s
6. Chilled on many beautiful islands
7. Caught a 63lb wahoo
8. 100s of early morning “guest on” days
9. Made sushi for the first time
10. Explored during breaks
11. Chased waterfalls xx
12. Drank cocktails in hot tubs
13. Taught friends to dive
14. Taught friends to dive pt2.
15. Planned beach bday parties
16. Planned boat pirate parties
17. Got in the ocean every available minute
18. Got married !!
19. Went on an incredible honeymoon
20. Excited for the next chapter

Only a week out the water and already feeling wayyy too dry 🥵

We may have just left Utila but our next adventure is only a week or so away ✈️ Destination…Antigua and Barbuda 🇦🇬 Plans aren’t set in stone yet but we’re so excited to see what’s next 👀

Taking this time to reset, stock up our first aid kit (since we pretty much emptied it during our time on the island 💊🩹) and properly wash all our clothes 🧼🫧

Before starting our tec courses, I had been diving for 15 years, 100s of dives under my belt, 3 years of cold water diving and completed my instructor course…but I was still SO nervous I wouldn’t be good enough.
•
As we know diving generally is a male dominated sport and tec diving even more so. I was always so intimidated by tec divers and generally stayed out their way 😂
•
I’m very lucky to say that every single person (especially the scary male tec divers😉) were incredibly supportive, encouraging and enthusiastic towards me while I completed my courses. I had absolutely nothing to be scared of and I’m so bloody happy I didn’t let my own insecurities get in the way 💪🏼

Incredibly lucky to be able to witness 140 hawksbill hatchlings on their first big adventure from nest to ocean 🌊

Due to predation, plastic pollution or even dehydration, very few of these babies will make it to adulthood, it’s estimated only 1 in 1,000.
•
Making sure the nests aren’t predated and that they reach the ocean without drying out is just the first challenge of many that these hatchlings will face. You got this little dudes 🤙🏼

Just breaking the surface 🌊

3 months ago we quit our jobs, rented our house out, sold everything we own, said goodbye to friends & family and left on a one way ticket ✈️

We headed for Utila, a tiny island off the mainland of Honduras for some diving bliss. Here at @utiladivecenter we’ve completed our instructor course, our MSDT internship and TEC40-50 courses 🤿
•
The only thing better than the incredible teaching and facilities at UDC are the people. We’ve met friends here that it feels like we’ve know for years and we’ll keep in contact with for a long time to come💙

Our time on Utila is sadly coming to an end soon and we’re moving onto our next adventure 💫

TEC40 ✅
•
Today we finished our TEC40 course with @echo260 at @utiladivecenter . Absolutely bloody loved it. We are starting TEC45 tomorrow and finishing up with TEC50 early next week 🤿

Elliott has done a lot of tech diving previously but mainly military so it’s great he will have an equivalent civilian qualification 💪🏼
•
But it’s all brand new to me and I’m loving every minute of it. So happy I’ve had the chance to take something I’m passionate about, learn a heap of new information and challenge myself as a diver 🤿
