On the 5th of May, the 46th edition of @bevrijdingspop , one of the Netherlands’ largest and oldest Liberation Day festivals, took place. The around 125.000 visitors could enjoy multiple areas filled with food, drinks, and performances by @bankzitters , @directband , @hannahmaemusicnl , and one of this year’s Ambassadors of Freedom, @karsudonmez , among many other (local) artists. Thanks to the dedication of all volunteers and the support of sponsors and suppliers, @bevrijdingspop once again came to life. We are proud that Backbone has been involved with the festival for 18 years now, supporting the client with production management, technical design, technical production, overlay management, and back-office. This year featured a refreshed look for the Odido mainstage at Vlooienveld. The structure was 14.1 meters high and 42 meters wide, with red, white, and blue elements that referenced the Dutch flag. It is designed with the idea of freedom in mind, and the fact that @bevrijdingspop takes place in a historic park. Besides the Odido Mainstage, there were three other stages: a smaller stage, the Vrijheidspodium at the Vlooienveld; the SENA performers stage powered by BUD in the Frederikspark; and a stage at the Hero KinderFestival in the Florapark, where younger visitors could also celebrate freedom. Exactly one week ago, @supersizedkingsdayfestival took place at Aquabest. With seven stages, 11 hours of show, and more than 100 artists, the visitors dressed head-to-toe in orange could celebrate the King’s birthday in (hard)style. Backbone was responsible for technical production, overlay management, production management, and 2D and 3D technical drawings. Our team spent two weeks onsite, making sure everything was fully in place before the gates opened. From stage builds to coordinating suppliers, we ensured every element came together, including bar and food & beverage tents, partially indoor stage structures, the bridge crossing the lake, and all visitor and backstage signage. Last Monday, April 27th, 𝟱𝟯𝟴 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗱𝗮𝗴 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 took place for the 13th time at the Chasséveld in Breda. 40,000 visitors enjoyed a lineup of 43 (!!) Dutch artists, bands, and DJs, all celebrating the King's 59th birthday during an 11-hour-long show. This year’s stage measured 85,7 meters wide and 24.98 meters high. The design was, of course, orange, combined with @radio538 ’s signature purple and green. The centerpiece of the stage was the large royal crown at the top. For show elements, motion systems such as turntables and hoists were incorporated from the roof. Artists were lifted from behind the stage, moved out of sight through the ridge of the stage roof to a catwalk bridge, and then lowered back down as a reveal moment between the balloons in the crown. During one of the performances, a swing was also integrated into the stage. And there was a lift positioned in the middle of the audience that brought the DJ duo Lucas & Steve up during the “5:38 moment” to perform their set. The entire show was broadcast live on TV and radio, supported by an 18-camera setup that included a flycam and drone cam. Backbone was also actively involved in planning changeovers, coordinating technical and logistical connections among bands, shows, and broadcasts, the show flow, and timetables. This ensured that all acts had the space and support they needed to deliver their performances on stage. There was a tight schedule to ensure the performances started and ended on time, partly because they needed to transition to other festivals in the country. In addition to the mainstage, the Backbone team also handled all temporary infrastructure, including backstage and hospitality tents, fencing and crowd barriers, signage, and bar setups. Our team worked closely with @radio538 and handled the technical design, technical production, production management, and overlay management. At the start of this year, winter sports enthusiasts in the Italian Alps experienced a series activations of a beer brand spread across a mountain village, from in-hotel experiences for incentives and meetings to a branded bar, from a fully branded restaurant at the mountain top, accessible only by skiing or snowboarding, to an exclusive alpine dome stay reserved for invited guests at one of the mountain’s peaks. @welcometowink , the creative force behind this activation, partnered with Backbone for the technical production, overlay management, and back-office support in the snowy mountains. YEAH! Last Monday evening, the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 @lepa.nederland were held at the Wageningse Berg in Wageningen. It was a great night surrounded by many familiar faces from the events industry. On top of that, we were proud to win the 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 award for 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗽 𝗱𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗻𝗴, and Lilian won 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿. 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥 | 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗽 𝗱𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗻𝗴 ‘𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗽 𝗱𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗻𝗴’ won the LEPA Award for 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿. In a highly competitive field, including names like Lowlands and SAIL 2025, this project truly stood out to the jury. According to the jury report, the bar was set extremely high, yet this production managed to achieve what seemed almost impossible: delivering a large-scale festival on the A10 under intense time pressure and with complex logistical challenges. What made this project exceptional was the collaboration. Together with @tribecompany , @kingcanary_ , SKILLS Crowd Management, and @beeagencybv , we worked as one team alongside countless suppliers, partners, crew members, and volunteers, bringing to life a production that quite literally turned the city into a stage. We’re excited to introduce the newest member of our European team: welcome, @verbeek_eric ! 𝗘𝗿𝗶𝗰 joined us last month as Production Manager. He’s certainly no stranger to the events industry. After spending a few years outside the sector, he’s now back in full swing. In his first month alone, Eric has already been involved in several projects and even travelled abroad to support his new colleagues on a production. Last weekend, @rotterdam.ahoy was the place to be for @outsidersnl fans of all ages. 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗷𝗲 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀, which was for kids and families, and @avondjeoutsiders , which was for 18+, both enjoyed a three-hour show featuring performances by the evening's host, @outsidersnl , and his friends. Backbone was responsible for the technical design, technical production and overlay management for this event. Our team had three days for load-in and setup. Interesting fact: part of the rigging for the decor was already installed in the roof during the load-in of a previous production we also executed at Rotterdam Ahoy the week before. Last Tuesday, the @npo3fm 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 took place at @tivolivredenburg in Utrecht. 3FM honored Dutch artists across seven categories: Best Album, Best Artist, Best Group, Best Collaboration, Best Live Moment (on stage), Best Newcomer, and Best Song. The evening also featured performances by DI-RECT, Wende Snijders, Sef, and more. Behind the scenes, our Backbone team managed the technical production in just 1.5 days, from the green carpet area to multiple 3FM details throughout the venue, and the main event area where artists and audiences could enjoy the award show. Last Friday and Saturday, trance fans came together at @rotterdam.ahoy for @asotlive 's 25th-anniversary celebration. Curated by @arminvanbuuren , the two-day indoor festival showcased a lineup of over 55 (!!) artists across five areas. Backbone International handled technical production, technical design, and overlay management across all areas. During the four days of load-in, our team was in full swing with all the areas. In addition to the event at Rotterdam Ahoy, our team handled technical production for various A State Of Trance activations across Rotterdam in the days prior, including a surprise gig by Armin at Kruidvat, a setup at the central station, and a conference at a hotel for fans and professionals in the music industry.
