Retail Slut is a Los Angeles boutique, opened in 1983 by Helen O'Neill, known for punk, goth and underground styles. The shop championed fringe scenes—S&M, drag and rave—and even took part in Hands Around the World. Based on Melrose Avenue, it moved four times along the strip before closing on March 31, 2005. Retail Slut has reopened by Helen O'Neil and Partner Riq Munoz of PUNXNOTDEAD inside Deep house Design Store located in Downtown Los Angeles
Memorable moments include Slash reportedly stealing his first iconic top hat there during Guns N’ Roses’ early days, and regular visits from Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper, Axl Rose and Nina Hagen. Magnus Walker’s clothing career got a serendipitous push when employee Taime Downe tried to buy his pants. Andy Warhol featured a photo of the Dead Barbie Doll piece from the first shop in his America book, and Michael Jackson bought the bondage belt and bracelet that appear on his BAD album cover.
