On Wednesday, I will be talking about chairs at the seminar âPre-Raphaelite Tracesâ, and one in particular: the Sussex chair by Morris & Co.
Its slender and refined silhouette travelled between homes, theatres and the printed image. Itâs a curious example of how an object inspired by countryside crafts became a symbol of otherness, gender fluidity and modernity.
This talk will be an opportunity to share my methodology of tracing material culture across domestic interiors and theatrical stages. Itâs online and everyone is welcome to join!
If youâd like to attend, send me a dm with your email address and I will send over the flyer with all the details.
Dr. Glenda Youde will also be speaking, on walking in the footsteps of Elizabeth Siddal and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Very thrilled to hear her talk!
The seminar is organised by the @preraphaelitesociety graduate network

goodbye beautiful year âšđ
Another trip around the sun doing what I love, i.e. looking at pretty pictures/talking about pretty pictures/trying to make pretty pictures.
Another year with one foot on each side of the channel, feeling sometimes lost but always very loved.
A new home, a book in the oven, cohorts of students converted to art history - boxes got checked!!
Many plans for 2026, including not checking instagram too much.
Happy new year everyone and may it bring you what you are looking for
đ
Gathering these few recent ink drawings because they all seem to gravitate around a sense of place/ as I often do

Earlier this year I painted this poster for @sharon_hakim âs film The Devil and the Bicycle in my London bedroom, and a few months later itâs coming back to me as itâs been selected for the BFI London Film Festival next week! Itâll be shown at Vue west end on Tuesday 14th and BFI southbank on Thursday 16th, alongside other great looking films about girlhood and womanhood.
Very proud of my small part in this beautiful, clever and awakening film, and so happy I got to work again for my talented friend Sharon.
About the film:
Yasma gets very distracted from preparing her first communion. I wonât say more, just watch it! đ
It was adapted from a short story by @tamara_saade - whom I painted in my very first poster for Sharon five years ago, weâve come full circle!
