OPENING TOMORROW | @safwan_dahoul Join us tomorrow, May 16, 2026, from 6–9 PM for the opening of Safwan Dahoul’s solo exhibition, The Eye: An Aperture into the Soul, in the presence of the artist. Bringing together Dahoul’s latest works from his ongoing Dream series, the exhibition explores intimate interior worlds shaped by stillness, emotion, and quiet tension. Through enclosed spaces and contemplative figures, Dahoul invites viewers into moments that feel both deeply personal and universally familiar. We hope to see you there for an evening of art, conversation, and celebration. Pictured: Safwan Dahoul, Dream 279, 2025, Acrylic on canvas, 180 x 200 cm #Opening #SafwanDahoul #AyyamGallery

In a rare interview with AD, Syrian artist Safwan Dahoul invites us into his Dubai studio, reflecting on personal trials, loss and the subtle power of his Dream series, ahead of his highly anticipated Dubai exhibition at Ayyam Gallery. In “The Eye: An Aperture Into the Soul”, Dahoul presents a series of soulful figurative paintings, executed in a serious palette of black, white and grey tones. He revisits the motifs of boxes, cubes and drawers, symbolizing closure, isolation and the feeling of being trapped, which he started experimenting with nearly three decades ago. “I don’t know why I trapped my figures during this period,” says Dahoul. “I felt that I could return to them now because it really fits with the current atmosphere we are living in.” Photos by @aimhazi Link in bio to read the full story in @admiddleeast #safwandahoul #dubai #syria #art #contemporanyart

PRESS | @sama_alshaibi @dukeuniversitypress Sama Alshaibi’s Hornet’s Nest, from her Carry Over series, has been featured on the cover of the latest issue of JMEWS: Journal of Middle East Women’s Studies. Using the albumen print process, the work reimagines the Orientalist water jug as a form holding both violence and resilience. Through 19th-century photographic techniques and Alshaibi’s own body, she revisits these histories to expose rather than reclaim them. The figure stands alone and self-possessed, rejecting passivity and asserting a sovereign presence. #SamaAlshaibi #JMEWS #CarryOver #Cover
