We go deeper into how a chance moment, guided by his mother’s influence, turned into a full creative career. From local recognition to global attention, his story keeps unfolding.
A reminder to every artist out there: your path doesn’t have to look traditional to be valid. Keep creating, keep showing up, and trust that consistency plus belief in your work can open doors you didn’t even plan for.

My interest lies in advancing the importance of archaeology and preservation as it
relates to human history in Nigeria and across Africa. For too long, conversations about
African history have leaned heavily on oral and literary traditions. While these forms are
rich and meaningful, they are also vulnerable to distortion over time. Memory bends,
emphasis shifts, and each generation reshapes what it inherits. This does not invalidate
these forms of documentation, but it reveals their limits when used in isolation. What
strengthens history is corroboration. What stabilises identity is evidence.

What does it look like to choose art in a society that rarely sees it as the “safe” option?
On this episode of Art People, we sit with @ayoolaart as he shares how a mix of luck, timing, and his mother’s guidance pushed him toward a career that would eventually change his life.
From navigating doubt to building a name that is now recognized both locally and internationally, Ayoola’s journey is a reminder that passion, consistency, and belief in your work can open doors far beyond what you imagined.
Now, his works are collected globally and major brands are aligning with his vision.
A beautiful conversation about art, purpose, growth, and trusting your path. 🎨

Had the pleasure of receiving @kgosikgadi_maditshaba (RMB Latitude) and @ugonnaibe (Yenwa gallery) in my studio recently, and I must say we had lots to share, and they opened my eyes to more than I had thought of in my practice. Both of them are joint curators of the Nigeria focus presentation at the upcoming RMB Latitude art fair coming up in May 2026, and i along with other brilliant artists from Nigeria, will be representing the country at the fair. Looking forward to a great time in Joburg.

I had the pleasure of hosting @tonyola_007 in my studio last Sunday afternoon. We had a great time sharing our recent experiences and discussing his journey as a curator and mine in terms of inspiration, process, and my recent works. Tony recently completed a curatorial residency in Paris, one of my favorite cities where I also spent some time last year. Our conversation touched on human behavioral patterns within cities and viewed humans as infrastructure. I learned a lot from Tony, and this is not the first time he has had an impact on my work. I have followed his practice since he curated one of my projects. It’s always a rewarding experience in the studio with open arms and minds.

Making art is a way of writing your own autobiography.
The canvas becomes a diary holding traces of your actions, your memory, your lived and shared experiences.
Your work should be able to tell your story without explanation. And if it doesn’t… whose story have you been telling?

Had the pleasure of welcoming @smocontemporaryart to my studio today. We spent time engaging deeply with my series Cultural Foundations unpacking the layers, the process, and the ideas shaping the work.
At a certain point she said, “Pictures don’t do justice to these works.” That stayed with me.
It’s exactly why studio visits matter. Beyond the images, there’s a physical presence, a texture, a rhythm you can only experience in person. The work reveals itself differently when you’re in the space with it when you can truly see, feel, and question.
The studio remains an open site of dialogue, discovery, and reflection. If you’ve ever wondered what lives behind the finished pieces, come closer.
