Labour has failed to communicate what it believes in and is suffering a brutal set of local election defeats as a result.
Speaking to the BBC, Ash Sarkar says Labour was wrong to pander to the right, rather than addressing issues that unite people across the political spectrum.
âThe most important issue across all the different parts of the electorate is the cost of living,â says Sarkar, adding that tackling it could bring together âa working class Muslim voter in east Londonâ and âa white working class voter in the northeastâ.

She argues that the dynamic between partners affects their ability to make an informed choice â and the law should reflect that.
