“We dared to be free!” (a Haitian proverb) keeps running through my mind. For those that don’t know I left a restaurant job to bet on my community and to do things differently with food and the people that surround it. I spend my time doing a lot of imagining but I have to admit that being on this list AT NO. 5 of Detroit’s TOP 10 Best Restaurants of 2025 just two weeks after the hallmark of celebrating my very 1st year AS A POPUP put me in a whirlwind of emotions I never imagined would come this fast. As a first generation Haitian I take immense pride—like every Haitian does; in my country, in it’s culture, and in our second to none food. (Hahaha) But, seriously it is an immense privilege to share these recipes with Detroit. My people are a determined people. They guide me through every dish, & decision. & to those that know (IYKYK) They tell me I am freedom. Thank you, Lyndsay @ladyluff Thank you @detroitfreepress & Thank you to EVERYONE that supports me. I am because we are. We sustain when we come together!

Ayiti Free Monthly Luncheon is a call to action and a principled hope towards more abundant food sovereign communities of collective care. Starting with a commitment to gather at the lunch table with our neighbors in rest, joy, and arms once a month because

the motto on the Haitian flag, which translates to “Unity makes strength”
We draw our inspiration from the People’s Free Food Program and the determined efforts of the Black Panther Party.
A meal will be served NOON-3PM @moondogdetroit On Saturday, April 25th (and all our welcome )

I had such a fantastic time creating this piece for @franchescalamarre a.k.a, @ayitispaghetti 🇭🇹! One of my favorite things is when you all bring your own fun flavor twists to the table, and this one was no exception.
