Today we invite you to dedicate your gift in honor of Marie Claire Heureuse. Born in LĂŠogâne, Haiti, in 1758 (268 years ago today), she is remembered today as Haitiâs first Empress, the wife of Jean-Jacques Dessalines, and one of his closest advisors. But in her own right, she stood as a powerful example of humanitarian action during the Haitian Revolution.
Her story reminds us that the concepts of âmutual aid,â collective care, and pulling up for one another existed strongly during the Haitian Revolution and within Haitian communities long before modern humanitarian organizations formalized the language around it. Contribution link in our bio.
