Life is the biggest contradiction anyone will ever experience.
While some people wake up every morning worried about what to eat before the day ends, others have more money than they could ever spend, yet cannot enjoy life because of their health.
One man is battling hunger.
Another is battling diabetes.
Both are fighting to survive.
Some people are praying for an opportunity.
Others have opportunities everywhere but still cannot find peace.
Some are desperate to leave their country for a better life.
Others are abroad wishing they could return home and feel whole again.
Some countries are enjoying peace.
Others are waking up to war, fear and uncertainty.
Some people are healthy but broke.
Some are wealthy but sick.
Some are famous but lonely.
Some are unknown but genuinely happy.
One person is praying for fame.
Another famous person is praying for privacy.
Some people sleep under bridges and still laugh with freedom in their hearts.
Others sleep in mansions but silently battle depression.
While some couples are dancing into marriage every weekend before family, friends, pastors and cheering crowds, others living under the same roof can barely stand each other anymore.
The same life that blesses one person can completely humble another.
And that is why the older we grow, the more we realise that nobody truly has it all figured out.
Behind every smile is a silent battle.
Behind every success story is a burden nobody talks about.
So maybe kindness, understanding and gratitude are the only things that truly keep this world going.
Because life itself is a mixture of blessings and burdens, joy and pain, gain and loss.
And somehow, through all the contradictions…
we keep going.
We lost Alexx Ekubo, a young man, a colleague, a brother, a talent, and someone many people only knew through the smile he gave the world.
Watching his lifeless body right in front of me, I can honestly say that even in death, he looked peaceful. He looked like someone who had carried pain quietly for too long and finally found rest.
He never shared or disclosed issues concerning his health with any of us. And that is the part that should make all of us pause.
Behind the fine pictures, the red carpets, the movie premieres, the jokes, the smiles and the celebrity lifestyle, many public figures are fighting battles nobody can see. Some are battling sickness. Some are battling depression. Some are battling loneliness. Some are battling family issues. Some are battling the pressure of being judged by people who do not know them personally.⁶
Alexx reportedly fought stage four liver cancer. Chadwick Boseman gave the world Black Panther while privately battling colon cancer. Sammie Okposo faced public shame and personal battles before his sudden passing. Caroline Flack became a global reminder of how public humiliation and online cruelty can break a human being.
The painful truth is this: we do not always know what people are carrying.
Someone may be losing weight because of illness, and we call them names.
Someone may be quiet because they are depressed, and we say they are proud.
Someone’s marriage may be struggling, and we turn it into social media entertainment.
Someone may be trying to hustle just to stay alive, while we use their pain to catch cruise.
Science may not say trolling causes cancer, but we know that constant stress, humiliation, depression and emotional pressure can worsen a person’s health, break their spirit, run into their shadows and make their private battles even harder to fight.
Celebrities are human beings first, just like everyone else who experiences life.
Before you blog that unconfirmed story, type that insult, before you mock that weight loss, before you laugh at that failed relationship, before you turn someone’s pain into content, please remember that your comment may be meeting them at the weakest point of their life.
Some losses do not feel real no matter how many times you try to process them.
Still struggling with the reality that you are gone, Alex.
From the laughter to the conversations, the random moments, the brotherhood, and all the memories we shared in this industry… this one hurts deeply.
I was there. I saw you still smiling even in death. I saw the tears from friends and family. And honestly, a part of me is still in shock.
Rest well my brother.
You will be remembered beyond the lights, the cameras, and the fame
Sometimes, the more life tries to embarrass some people publicly, the more grace quietly lifts them privately.
Not every negative plot ends in destruction.
Some people heal, grow, win, smile again, and become stronger right in front of the same audience that doubted them.
In the end, being alive, at peace, and still moving forward will always be the real victory.
Still buzzing from the AMVCAs last night…
