I grew up washing blood soaked wrappers of women who have given birth. I grew up burying placentas where our plantain tree was. I grew up hearing the pain and screams of women in labour. I grew up watching my mom clean up women who have defecated on themselves as they pushed out babies. I grew up watching my mom pray and use her medical wisdom to deliver babies upon babies WITHOUT EVER losing a baby or the mother. I grew up boiling water for women to sit on so their vaginas will heal and go back to the way it was. I grew up helping women tie wrappers around their stomach so their stomachs can begin to go back some semblance of normal. I grew up bathing new born babies. I grew up knowing that at ANY time, day or night, a woman in labour would be brought to our house. Some would come without any thing, I mean not even sanitary pad or baby clothes and my mom will send me to get the medical supplies from her drug store and the baby clothes from the market. So when men talk like they know or they have seen or they understand the sacrifice…. my head explodes! We saw first hand the money, childbirth & marriage sacrifices (even the mistakes) our mothers made. We honour it all but refuse to inherit it. There will always, always be a breaking point. Hers was being diagnosed with fibroids and seeing that “the man of God” couldn’t care less. It gave her the courage to finally work away. No plans. No money. But a fierce need to leave. I just love how God made it that her anger stopped them from acting or hurting her. This is a story of courage and a will to survive and THRIVE against all odds. I met this brave young lady in 2024 and she told me a story that belongs in a movie. What she shared is just 12% of the atrocities she and her family experienced (and are still experiencing because some family members are still there) in this place I can only describe as a cult because that is not a church and that is definitely not the Holy Spirit. Others who have been unfortunate enough to find themselves in this cult have experienced it all, from grooming, to conditioning, manipulation, ab#se (in all forms), trafficking, fraud, grape, severe beatings (that led to blackouts), pepper being used in ways I can’t describe here. This is a story of courage and a will to survive and thrive against all odds.
