I am thrilled to announce that I am the artist in residence for @urbanglass_nyc in Brooklyn’s Fall 2023 Bead Project program. I’m Ayana from Ayana B. Joy, a recent Bead Project alumna where I studied the technique of glass lampworking, and I am so excited to bring you on this journey with me. I’m a jewelry designer who also works with various fiber work and hand lettering design. My love of hand-lettering, my Caribbean heritage, the black diaspora, indigenous culture, ocean scenes, and tropical motifs all serve as inspiration for my jewelry and artwork. I’ll be helping the new class, developing my glass working skills, and concentrating on a brand-new project that is combined with handknit tapestries and woven glass beads. I took my tween to an ocean themed key chain crafting workshop by @ayanabjoy . Ayana is hands down one of my favourite jewelry designers…she blows her own glass beads from recycled glass. Her pieces are one of a kind gorgeous and sustainable…ya’ll know how I feel about that 🤏🏾🤏🏾🤏🏾 It is such a blessing to be surrounded by so many beautiful inside and out role models that my daughter can see herself reflected in at this experience- healers, creatives, entrepreneurs, academics and. birth workers.
