2 years. And 75 years. “A time where once, Palestinians imagined their future nation with a flag tinged with the colour of Jaffa’s oranges, a symbol that reflects Palestinians’ deep connection to their land. But history followed a different path.”
My grandparents lives from Jaffa Palestine were taken from them in the First Nakba. The catastrophe. Is(not)rael’s declaration of their Independence on May 14th, 1948, was only the beginning of their nightmare. My grandparents, were asked by the military to leave their home for a “review” and were promised that they could return with no timeline. Ones who refused were killed. My grandparents did not get their home back. They fled to Egypt. Then to Kuwait. After the Gulf war, they settled in Jordan. My Father does not know what peace looks like and now I understand his rage with the western world. All while As a lost child going through an identity crisis trying to figure out where my other half of my roots have gone… this is for many cases for Palestinians who have gone through generational ‘cleansing’. This is what the western world is trying to achieve the eraser of Palestinians. This is not just about me as a Palestinian but the cycle of colonialism and white supremacy still exists LOUD AND CLEAR: YES ITS THAT DEEP!!!! I will not tolerate the complicit behaviour anywhere at anytime. I’m tired of being silenced by the ignorancy… which is why I get quiet in the first place cause it’s so clear to me how many people are not informed. My grandparents kept moving so their kids could live, so my father could live. For that, i have a responsibility to speak my truth. In honour of my grandparents, who both lived a long life, my grandmother who almost lived up to 100, would only hope from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free and for those to return to their homes with the abundance of the olive trees, orange trees, fig trees and almond trees. For mothers and fathers to be able to hold their kids safely. To live in peace again. We are the land of Rebellious Oranges 🍊🇵🇸 #palestine
