Double-height volumes aren’t just about drama — they’re about borrowing sky. The arched openings reference classical architecture but are stripped of all ornament, leaving only the gesture. Floor-to-ceiling arched windows pull the garden inside without a door ever opening. The sunken garden bed under the staircase is the detail most people walk past — we designed it as a breath of nature at the heart of the home, visible from every level. Travertine walls, floating timber treads, and a single pendant cluster. Nothing competes. Everything converses. #archi #melbournearchitects #interiordesign #luxuryhome #architects

The best architecture doesn’t interrupt the landscape. It belongs to it. Our recently completed Keysborough residence sits on a corner block with a rare double advantage — creek frontage to the front, north-facing aspect to the side. We oriented the kitchen, living, and main bedroom to face north, then wrapped the garden around the house so every primary space connects to greenery and light simultaneously. The facade reads as flat parapet from the street — clean, contemporary, considered. But fly overhead and you’ll find a pitched roof set deliberately back from the facade. The neighbourhood character required it. Our response was to honour the brief without surrendering the aesthetic. From the street, you see the house we designed. From above, you see the concession you’ll never notice. That’s the discipline of good architecture — solving constraints so quietly that no one knows they existed. The material and planting palette was chosen with one intention: to let the house recede into its natural surroundings rather than compete with them. A home that earns its place in the landscape rather than imposing on it. #archi #melbournearchitects #contemporarydesign #architects #residentialarchitecture

Restraint is a design decision. Light brick mass, dark steel trim, and a timber garage door — three materials doing exactly what they need to, nothing more. Notice how the upper volume cantilevers slightly over the entry, creating shelter without announcing it. The flush soffit keeps the roofline razor-thin. Landscaping is deliberately low and horizontal to let the architecture breathe. This is a house that doesn’t ask for your attention. It earns it slowly. #archi #melbournearchitects #contemporarydesign #architects #residentialarchitecture

Crafted walls. Considered light. A space that earns its silence. Floor-to-ceiling timber panelling, textured stone inlays, and an open-plan flow that connects living, dining, and kitchen without sacrificing intimacy. #archi #melbournearchitects #interiordesign #luxuryliving #architects

At our recently completed Keysborough residence, every decision traces back to one idea — the house should work with its site, not against it. The wide central corridor opens into a double-void with a skylight overhead, drawing natural light deep into the plan where most homes go dark. The family room is orientated true north-west — a deliberate choice so the best light finds the space where the family spends the most time. Full-height glazing dissolves the boundary between inside and garden; you don’t look at the outdoors here, you live within it. The material palette carries through without interruption — light oak, selected marble, continuous colour tone from living to kitchen. Nothing resets. Everything flows. Then there’s the island bench. The curve wasn’t decorative. It was designed to soften the geometry of the plan and invite movement around it. Open the bifold doors and the kitchen becomes something else entirely — part café, part garden room. #archi #melbournearchitects #interiordesign #contemporarydesign #architects

Where stone meets timber, and every meal becomes a ritual. Travertine columns frame a coffered walnut ceiling, herringbone floors, and a dining table built to anchor lifelong memories. This is what intentional design feels like. Designed by Axe Architects. 📍 Canterbury #archi #melbournearchitects #interiordesign #contemporarydesign architec

✨ Exciting project reveal. This entry space centres around a sculptural, ribbon-like staircase — a fluid architectural gesture that anchors the home. Soft curves meet clean planes, while natural light accentuates the form, turning circulation into a moment of artistry. A glimpse into the calm, minimalist materiality that flows throughout the rest of the residence. #Architects #interiordesign #StaircaseDesign #LuxuryHomes #melbournedesign
