The worst polluter in Britain, Drax, didn’t show up to their own AGM... so we stormed their offices round the corner. These cowards are evading ripped-off billpayers like us, and even worse, the people whose communities they poison with toxic air. Go breathe poison, Willard Dwight Gardiner (CEO)
Last year, the Labour Govt gratiously gave £999,000,000 from our energy bills to Drax Group, owner of ‘renewable’ Drax Power Station in Yorkshire. Just like foreign oil, this does not provide us energy security, cheap bills, and definitely not a green transition. But this story is getting even worse, as they’re now appealing to the Govt and private interests to build an AI data centre that runs off this energy.
Here is how Drax Power Station works:
– Drax cuts down primary, old growth forests from southern US and parts of Europe
– Processes this wood to into pellets at pellet mills, polluting cancerous fumes
(these pellet mills are based in working class, majority black neighbourhoods)
– Ships these pellets all the way here and burn it at Drax Power Station, the UK’s single largest carbon emitter.
What can you do?

Drax faced multiple disruptions at their AGM this morning, as we demanded to know why our tax money was being spent on destroying the environment and poor, majority black communities in the Southern US.
Dr Krystal Martin travelled from Mississippi to speak today, but was denied the opportunity by Drax. We'd like to thank her for sharing her thoughts - more coming soon!

Drax is so the ‘not like the other girls’ against fossil fuel companies.
Instead of burning coal, oil, or gas, they burn huge forests around the globe, calling themselves ‘carbon neutral’ while owning the single largest carbon emitter in the UK, and decimating local biodiversity.
And just like fossil fuel giants BP and Shell, they dump all their pollution on Black and Brown neighbourhoods overseas. It’s just colonialism but in green.

Two days ago, we told the CEO of Drax to ‘Go breathe poison’. Sounds extreme, but is only fair, since his company is subjecting black and brown communities to cancerous air whenever they leave their homes.
Over in Gloster, in Mississippi USA, residents compare their town to the ‘wild, wild west’ from just how much wood dust blows in the air. Streets of residents suffer from breathing issues. Local Krystal Martin recently shared with us a video of a dog wheezing from the thick poison outside.
Our Labour government, who campaigned on a promise to put the Green New Deal at ‘the heart of everything we do’, pours billions from our energy bills to get ancient woodlands logged abroad, shipped here, and burned. I dont know about you, but I was told in school that cutting down ancient woodland was bad for the environment.
At Drax Power Station in Yorkshire, they treat their workers like absolute garbage. Many are now in early retirement after getting too sick from the wood dust, and workers who speak up are blacklisted. We demand an urgent worker-led transition out of tree-burning.
Having clean air to breathe, and a liveable future, are rights that should never be questioned. People like Dwight Willard Gardiner (yes, that is his actual name) are standing in the way. Take action with us so these billions can instead fund a worker-led green transition.

Drax AGM week...we will never let Drax hide.
This past week we've been honoured to be joined by Dr. Krystal Martin, her mum Jane Martin and Katherine Egland who travelled all the way from Mississippi with only the truth as their weapon.
Frankly, Drax is terrified of this truth.
The truth about Drax is they're the UK's dirtiest energy company, their operations are poisoning poor, rural, Black and Brown communities in the Southern US and destroying vital forests around the world.
This week we met with partners, MPs, regional decision makers, staff and students at the Uni of York, the public and attended Drax's AGM - all with a clear message: UK 'green' subsidies are funding the poisoning of communities like Gloster, Mississippi and destruction of vital forests.
While we're always honored to be joined by such incredible organisers - they shouldn't have to travel across th Atlantic to advocate for their right to live.
It's past time we stopped Drax.
