What if the oil you throw away could light up someone’s future?
@teresawidiw and her team saw oil waste flooding the drains of her neighborhood, thick, sticky, and dangerous. At the same time, she saw something else clogging her community: economic hardship and limited opportunities for the women around her. That moment sparked something in Teresa.
As the R&D Director at
@dadio.deco , Teresa and her team focused on finding a sustainable way forward, one that didn’t just reduce pollution but opened new doors for income. Working with her team, she helped develop a product rooted in both environmental responsibility and community empowerment: eco-friendly candles made from used cooking oil.
Each month, Dadio collects oil waste from over 200 households in Kasihan, Yogyakarta. Instead of dumping it, the oil is reused to create high-quality aromatic candles. And the hands crafting them? Local housewives, trained in candle-making and financial literacy, are working toward flexible, dignified livelihoods.
This model isn’t just innovative, it’s inclusive. With Solve Education!’s GAIN framework, Dadio empowers women through gamified learning, AI-driven finance coaching, meaningful incentives, and a strong local support network.
Together, they’re building a circular economy, one where waste is reclaimed, women are respected, and small actions lead to big change.
We’re proud to announce that Dadio has been selected as one of the winners of Solve for Change Batch 3 in collaboration with
@averagefoundation , a recognition of grassroots innovation built on sustainability, sisterhood, and the belief that circular solutions can empower communities. 🎉
Dadio is turning kitchen waste into light, skills, and a steady income for women in Kasihan, Yogyakarta.
