Looking forward to seeing you there
Eva Rotreklová is a Prague-based visual artist with an interest in graphic design, audiovision and pop culture. Her practice focuses on interpersonal relationships, archives and memory. In the context of the family as well as in the commercial world of corporate mascots. She works in the medium of drawing, print, object or video, and always views the explored issues critically, sensitively and with humour.
Drawing is central to her work. Whether screen printed in large format, in an intimate diary, or digitally in a video. It always reflects Eva’s easiness, which she’s able to combine with society-wide themes, which she quotes from watching The Kardashians, or scrolling through tiktok. It is in these places of pure pop culture where she finds the courage to work with controversial topics. Which she turns around, and shows their emancipatory perspectives in unexpected compositions.
Just as drawing is ever-present in Eva’s work, so is an inner intuition that comes mostly from her interaction with society. Whether it is a reflection on the position of women in the present, an imaginary journey from the periphery to success, or a sad family constellation. Eva is always able to lighten the situation and combined with her pop culture design punch, she makes work that is both heavy and humorous.
Eva’s residency is funded by the EU – NextGeneration – NPO Funding Program.

🖤 @avejaeva
📖Heyo, ⭕️ne year ag⭕️, got a wrinkle and this b🫧k 🪵Cute face, nice body, babe, you can sell me anything!🟢⬜️📚
This work operates with a non systematically accumulated visual archive, formed over a period of two years as an unintended by product of everyday movement through an oversaturated image environment. The archive is understood not as a neutral collection, but as a visual fossil into which further interventions are made through the layering of additional visual elements.
Digital printing emphasizes noise, compression artefacts and error as inherent conditions of contemporary image circulation. Repeated black risograph printing introduces material instability, misregistration and grain as markers of affect, memory and non linear temporality. Silver screen printing operates through the logic of attention and spectacle, appropriating the visual language of advertising in order to expose the tension between critical distance and seductive surface.
