Another brilliant drive saw him take 2nd in the B race driving his Lotus 21.
Both cars brilliantly prepared by Tom Smith and the boys at @mirage_engineering .
It's thanks to Mark that I got into historic racing as it was a passenger lap at Zandvoort in his elan 26R, and his incredible driving skill, that inspired me to learn to race historic cars. In fact I persuaded him to sell me that very car.

Back at @oultonparkofficial Park this weekend for the @equipeclassicracing series.
Despite the heavens opening yesterday, we still managed a productive test day, got some laps in, and ironed out a few creases ahead of today’s racing.
We’re here supporting @auto_stable with his stunning Chevron B8, competing in the Equipe 70s Sports Racing Cars series.
We’ve also got Joel’s Lotus 26R out in the Equipe Libre 40-minute race, where he’ll be sharing the drive with David Humpston.
The weather’s looking good, the cars are ready, and we’re set for a cracking day.

My #bentley story.
I first sat in and started one aged 16 in 1992 while working as a car valeter / general dogsbody at Ron Stratton & Co in Knutsford. Nothing felt quite like a Rolls / Bentley inside (maybe some Jaguars came close) - the lines of stitching, the abundance of leather, unique dials and switchgear that didn’t feature in any other car. And the reviews in Car magazine - I still remember the early 90s cover feature “When Money Doesn’t Matter” which had the Bentley Turbo R beating the best that Mercedes, BMW and Jaguar could offer. Another version of the same test a few years later was headlined simply “Setright Decides”. I can still remember the great man’s concluding words: “in the end it comes down to class. And only the Bentley has that”.
And it’s true. Lighter, more economical, more reliable, better built ,less expensive they may be, but at the end of the day the S class and the 7 series are just mass-production taken to a high level. And that’s fine, but it’s not really what the Bentley is about. 30 years later, I finally have one of my own. So what’s it like after 30 years of wanting one, 30 years spiced and seasoned by reviews, Alan Clark’s diaries and road tests, Iain Tyrell videos and approximately 300 hours at the coalface on Car & Classic?
Amazing!
The cockpit is sublime. It somehow has an aircraft feel to it, an air of heavy machinery, or engineering (as opposed to appliance). The switchgear and control weights are weighty but precise. The wheel is surprisingly thin rimmed and lovely to use. You can barely hear the exhaust on tickover but it makes a quietly thunderous roar on full boar acceleration. The thrust is as you would expect for a 6.75 litre V8 with a truck turbo on it.
