Helping calm a child with autism starts with understanding what they’re experiencing. Tantrums and meltdowns can look similar, but they often have different causes. Tantrums may involve trying to get something or a reaction, while meltdowns are usually the result of overwhelming stress or sensory overload. Staying calm, encouraging gentle breathing, and reducing stimulation can help children feel safe and supported during these moments. What happens when a community embraces open hearts, joyful energy, and a shared belief in belonging? Magic. Our Santa Dance Party was one of those nights that reminds us why we do this work. Part of the Magical Series presented by the Magical Bridge Foundation in partnership with the @cityofpaloalto , this event also marked our first collaboration with the @autismsocietysfba , and it truly showcased community at its best. We are already excited about creating many more moments together in 2026. Kindness Ambassadors, local Scouts and their families, volunteers from the San Francisco Autism Society, and many others from our Bay Area community came together to create a night filled with joy, connection, and celebration. A special thank you goes to Curt, the husband of our Curator of Community Kindness, Harriet, who stepped into the role of Santa and danced the night away, making the evening unforgettable for many in our community. We also loved the “ugly sweater” contest (though we think the sweaters were far more beautiful than ugly!), which featured coordinated outfits from friends like @adascafe , the Special Olympics San Francisco team, and many more. One of the touching moments of the night came from Luis, who traveled all the way from Gilroy with his family and his brother. Luis joined @loriandrj on stage for a solo that reminded us of the power of these shared moments. We take great care in curating our events with purpose, and while many of our events are designed to be a bit more sensory-friendly, this night was filled with music, lights, and joyful energy. Everyone who attended embraced it, and together we created something vibrant, welcoming, and full of life. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the moments we captured from the evening. We can’t wait to share the beautiful photos captured by our dear friend and photographer, Mike Abbott of Los Altos. We are heading into Monday with hearts full and deep gratitude for this incredible Bay Area community. Look forward to more of these collaborations and community building in 2026! #MagicalSeries #TrueCommunity #InclusionInAction #MagicalBridgeFoundation #SanFranciscoAutismSociety #KindnessIsMagical

Giving Tuesday is almost here! As you plan your charitable giving, please consider supporting the Autism Society San Francisco Bay Area (SFASA). On the weekends, we create opportunities for families impacted by autism—hikes, swim days, trampoline parks, and sensory-friendly performances. But that’s just the start: Advocacy: We work with leaders in Sacramento and Washington to protect our community’s rights. Education: We host a nationally-known adult autism conference annually and monthly webinars with experts in health, housing, education, and care. Community: Our weekly family events are safe, fun, and provide a wonderful outlet for loved ones with autism and their entire household. We have just scratched the surface though – with your help we can expand our impact even further! Make a grassroots impact with your Giving Tuesday gift. #givingtuesday #autism https://sfasa.givecloud.co/fundraising/forms/84D3PNEW
