Over the last couple of years I have been intentional about letting go of beauty rituals that no longer serve me. Things that I might have done just because it is āstandardā for women to do or things that take my time & money. Often things that prey on societal induced insecurities among women in one way or another. My motivation behind letting them go is realizing and understanding where they come from and why I was choosing to participate in the ritual. I can go into detail in future dedicated posts about my reasons for stopping certain beauty patterns but for the time being here is a list of things that I no longer do. The list of things that Iām choosing to do differently in motherhood is long. Iām learning on the job and making decisions as I go. My background as an educator really comes in handy but it is still not a complete blueprint for how to give my children exactly what they need. They are both so different in temperament and personality so no doubt we have to navigate those differences. But when it comes to my daughter, I see how she truly looks up to me and every move that I make. It makes me want to be free-est most authentic version of myself purely so that she can know that in a world where being boxed in is typical, she can be exactly who she wants to be, no matter what that looks like. Even if it hasnāt been done before.

Only 5 summers left with my first born & only son so yes, Iām doing everything possible to steal back moments with him! Yes it takes time that I donāt always feel like I have but heās learning true hair care through our time together on wash days. Impressing teenagers can feel like a huge challenge but connecting with him consistently is the real win š I love asking him about his friendships, his connections with his teachers, what feels hard at the moment and what comes easily to him.
