Wow, my Instagram account was taken over by my double from a parallel universe! I guess Mirror Austin is an astronaut—pretty cool. Back in this universe, I composed a symphony about the total solar eclipse of April 2024. It was an incredible event. Today, Artemis II witnessed a staggering 54-minute total solar eclipse from the far side of the Moon in the Orion Space Capsule. To celebrate this unprecedented human experience from space, here’s an excerpt from the first movement of the symphony, “Totality.” �And as a bonus, here are some quotes from the NASA astronauts today who witnessed totality from space: “I know this observation won’t be of any scientific value, but I am really glad we launched on April 1st, because humans probably have not evolved to see what we’re seeing. It is truly hard to describe. It is amazing.” ⁃Victor Glover on April 6th 2026 during the Solar Eclipse “No matter how long we look at this, our brains are not processing this image in front of us. It is absolutely spectacular, surreal. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Commander Reid Wiseman will not be flying today on Artemis II. You might have wondered why I’m so knowledgeable about space and science, or why I traveled constantly during my PhD studies. That’s no coincidence. In 2016, I was recruited by the most elite college training program for the NASA Moon to Mars Generation of Astronauts. After years of intense studying and pilot training at Vandenburg Space Force Base—completely in secret from my family and friends—I made the qualifications for Low Earth Orbit and eventually the Artemis Program shortlist. In a last-minute swap, I have been sworn in as the Rookie on the Artemis II team. Liftoff at 6:24pm EDT (3:24pm PDT) from Launch Complex 39B from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL.
