Mark Williams - StarMix (#3️⃣) 💫 One of my favourite techno tracks of all time, it can sound harsh at first but the drums are the perfect level of hard together with the outer-space melodies and the whispering vocal on the track (who is that? is it him?) anyway still an r&b dj, still doing my little techno radio show where i somehow fail to beatmatch two tracks with the bpms right in front of me for you all to see (slide 4️⃣) this one started out hard and a little commercial (in the actual mix) and got more acidic and released-before-i-was-born towards the end 새로운 뭔가를 배울 때 원래 이런식이지만 역시 테크노 10%를 알았을 때 90%를 아는 줄 알고 이제 정말 해보려고 하니 10%도 모른다는게 느껴짐

2014 on soundcloud, my first time ever hearing jersey club music Actually jersey club has 25+ years of history and it rarely gets told start to finish late 90s-mid 2000s. DJ Tameil, Tim Dolla, Brick Bandits. baltimore club meets newark house parties. burned CDs sold on broad street, skating rinks, Sony Acid Pro. they built the whole thing from scratch late 2000s-early 2010s. sliink, nadus, jayhood, uniiqu3. the sound gets its own identity. THREAD parties, bed squeaks, sexy walk, patty cake. jersey club leaves newark but stays rooted 2013-2016. trippy turtle (who was lido the whole time), cashmere cat, fofofadi crew. scandinavian and european producers reinterpret jersey club through soundcloud and diplo & friends. here the sound goes completely international late 2010s-early 2020s. cookiee kawaii, bandmanrill, lil uzi x mcvertt. tiktok virality meets jersey drill. “vibe” and “just wanna rock” put the genre in front of millions and major label money enters the chat right now. ziahfyahh, kyle richh, dxrkaii, chillznyc, j5ytee. jersey club x zess bounce x nola bounce. kids making beats on bandlab, posting straight to tiktok, no blog cosign needed. zero press coverage but every middle school party in the northeast is playing this, the most undocumented wave yet almost 30 years of Black musical innovation from newark to the world and every wave was built by teenagers 90년대 후반-2000년대 중반. 미국 뉴저지 뉴어크에서 시작. unfortunately afro house means two completely different things right now the original sound from angola, south africa and other african countries is percussion-driven and rooted in local rhythms. what’s filling up algorithms post-2022 is pretty much ai-adjacent music that is only the same in name carlos monsta (last track in the video) made 18 afro house tracks, one for each province of angola take a second and compare someone mapping out their whole country through music with people who first heard a log drum in 2024 trying to sell out a random ‘festival’ with 4820 camera angles and 0 djs wearing shirts anyway the first track here is from são tomé and príncipe. 🇸🇹 two islands off the western coast, it is the second smallest country in africa and the smaller island príncipe where the DJ is from has only about 8,000 people they speak Portuguese (like angola too) The other three tracks are closer to kuduro than house, and many of the producers make both but the genres are not the same kuduro is usually ~10-20bpm faster with heavy focus on drums and percs it grew from a local dance when producers in Luanda started downloading cracked fruity loops in the early 2000s pretty much the exact same time as baile funk and uk grime were starting across the globe on the same software later, kuduro’s dna moved to lisbon through the angolan diaspora and became batida (seen in day 4) 덥스텝, 테크하우스, 그리고 afro house ! 지금 이름만 같은 완전 다른 두 장르인 장르들 앙골라, 남아프리카, 그리고 다른 아프리카 나라들애서 나오는 원래 아프로하우스 사운드는 퍼커션 중심에 현지 리듬 기반이고 2022년 이후 꺼는 유럽이나 북미애서 바이럴 인터넷 영상만 채우고 있는 거의 AI 수준 장르다 이름 빼면 공통점 크게 없음 첫 트랙은 상투메 프린시페 출신. 🇸🇹 서아프리카 해안의 두 섬인데 아프리카에서 두 번째로 작은 나라고 트랙의 DJ가 태어난 프린시페 섬 인구가 약 8,000명 🇦🇴앙골라처럼 여기도 포르투갈어권 나머지 세 트랙은 house보다 kuduro 쪽이다 둘 다 만드는 프로듀서도 있지만 장르 자체가 조금 많이 다름 kuduro는 10-20 bpm 정도 더 빠르고 드럼이랑 퍼커션이 거의 전부임 앙골라 내전 끝나갈 때 루안다 프로듀서들이 크랙 fruity loops (fl studio) 깔면서 퍼진 장르고 baile funk이랑 uk grime이 지구 반대편에서 같은 소프트웨어로 동시에 시작하던 시기…

there’s a type of song in club music called “___ theme” and jersey and bmore club producers have been making them since it started around 2011 dj tameil made a “teena marie theme” that was used in public television documentaries to explain the jersey club kick pattern (5 on the floor) basically take an artist’s sound (sometimes more than 1-2 songs at once) and make a club remix out of it in today’s reel 3 of the best jersey producers right now do it here with Tyla (the track is called TYLA THEME). this is the kind of jersey that’s extra bass-boosted with high energy vocal chops and a lot going on most of the song. even if I did have the mixer in the red here, the bass is clipping to distortion already in the original track and the low end is most of the song besides tyla’s vocal (and the other main sample) if you want more, gutta has 30+ volumes of edits on bandcamp and jiddy’s soundcloud is its own whole afternoon of listening. You’ve heard his producer tag “jay-eye-double-dee-why” in the club, dj mag’s 2022 article on the evolution of jersey club even had a whole section just for him 클럽 음악에 “___ theme”이라는 트랙 유형이 있다 jersey랑 bmore 클럽 프로듀서들이 장르 초기부터 만들어온거고 아티스트의 대표적인 사운드를 가져와서 (어떨 때는 1-2곡 이상 한꺼번에) club 리믹스를 만드는 거 dj tameil이 2011년에 “teena marie theme“ (티나 마리는 유명한 80년대 미국 가수)을 만들었을 때 공영 TV 다큐에서 jersey club 킥 패턴을 일반 사람들한테 설명할 때 쓰였던 트랙이었다 오늘의 릴에서는 지금 제일 잘하는 jersey 프로듀서 3명이 Tyla로 이걸 했다 (트랙 이름이 TYLA THEME) gutta, styles savage, jiddy 이 셋이 만드는 jersey club은 서브우퍼가 나갈 것 같은 소리로 원곡에서 이미 베이스가 클리핑 걸려서 디스토션 나는 상태고 tyla 보컬이랑 몇 개 샘플 빼면 베이스가 거의 노래의 전부이다 더 듣고 싶으면 gutta는 bandcamp에 에딧 팩만 30개 넘고 jiddy의 soundcloud는 그 자체로 끝이 없음. 프로듀서 태그 “jay-eye-double-dee-why”가 안 나오는 클럽 서울에도 많음 #저지 #저지클럽

do they? tracks from 🇨🇦/🇳🇱 today the first record was produced by a group that only made ~7 songs total, but is still considered an extremely influential track for the deeper side of techno (it came out early in 1992) they made this, and then member of the group then went on to produce for the national ballet of canada the second is from steve rachmad, and to me personally is easily in the top 10 electronic songs of all time listen to this with any pair of headphones over 20,000KRW and you will get a taste of what astronauts feel on take off (At least I did when i first listened, just at home on my computer) I put the track ID at the very end here, and cut it off in the middle so that you have to go and listen to the whole thing Today’s ‘genre’ is “they don’t make them like this anymore” because that’s exactly what a friend said after hearing this for the first time while driving around at night in seoul And honestly cliches aside, I would say they never made them like this. another one that I really have no idea how to categorise. Alex Isley, Leon Thomas, Odeal, Joyce Wrice, Mary J Blige, Brent Faiyaz sped up JUST enough, with dance drums (still usually ~10bpm slower than an average house track) if you’ve ever seen me DJ at @courtecafe , i play these in almost every non-peaktime set. they fit between hyped moments to keep the room moving without going too crazy a lot of what does make these work is that people already know the song, but the beats are just fast enough to move while not being too fast to feel wrong or forced this has been happening on soundcloud for years and it still doesn’t really have one name. a lot of people just call it “soulection music” in texas they made the name soulduro because a lot of it uses slowed afro drum patterns. in chicago one of my favorite producers c-sick house has been doing it with 90s and 2000s r&b If you like it, c-sick house, love ave., sean dream, 1981 tokyo, JBA, or KMB. Search them Alex Isley, Leon Thomas, Odeal, Joyce Wrice, Mary J Blige, Brent Faiyaz 댄스 드럼 얹어서 딱 적당히만 빠르게 만든 건데- 그래도 보통 하우스 트랙보다 ~10bpm 정도는 느린 하우스 피크타임 아닌 거의 모든 셋에서 이거 틀고 있어서 코르트에서 나를 본 적 있으면 100% 몇번 들어본 스타일이다. 더 신나는 순간들 사이에서 분위기를 과하지 않게 유지해주는 음악으로 좋아서, 또 그냥 내가 너무 좋아해서 결국 매번 틀게됨 그래도 이런 음악 먹히는 가장 큰 이유는 사람들이 원곡을 이미 알고 있골 비트가 몸 움직이기엔 충분히 빠르면서도 너무 빨라서 어색하거나 억지스러운 느낌은 안 남. 어제 언급한 뻔한 테크하우스 팝송 리믹스들처럼 사운드클라우드에서 몇 년째 계속되고 있는 스타일이지만 아직 장르 이름이 딱히 정해진 게 없음… 대부분 사람들이 그냥 “soulection 음악”이라고 부르고 마이크로 장르로는 미국 텍사스 주에서 느린 afro 드럼 패턴을 많이 쓰는 쪽을 soulduro라고 이름 붙였음 또 시카고에서 내가 제일 좋아하는 프로듀서 중 하나 C-Sick House는 90-00년대 R&B로

다음주에 포르투갈 간다 ❗️ 여기 첫번째 곡에서 포르투갈어로 “아마피아노 아니야, 이건 게토다” 라는 가사가 나오고 musica de gueto (batida라고도 불림)는 포르투갈 리스본 외곽에서 카보베르데, 앙골라, 모잠비크의 뿌리가 있는 사람들이 시작한 음악이다 내가 디제잉 시작하기도 전부터 서울에서 하드 드럼 음악 틀어주는 (내가 알기로는) 두 명뿐인 디제이 중 한 명 보려고 한 달 내내 기다렸던 기억이 나는데, 디제잉 시작하고 더 깊이 접하게 되면서 점점 더 빠져들고 있음 작년에 파리에서 셋 끝나고 누가 “batida 틀었을 때 진짜 좋았어요” 라고 했는데 디제이도 아닌 사람이 그걸 어떻게 알았는지 당시에 나한테 너무 신기해서 계속 친구들이랑 얘기를 했는데, 다른 (하드)드럼 장르인 bouyon, baile funk, volt, 심지어 kuduro까지 이제 전 세계적으로 알려지고 있지만 여기서는 이 음악 자체는 아직 잘 알려져 있지 않은 것 같아 무튼 이거 좋으면 NegoO의 음악 더 찾아보거나 이름 끝에 fox 붙은 디제이 아무나 들어봐요: Marfox, Dariiofox, Danifox, Lycox + 더 He’s saying “this isn’t amapiano, this is ghetto” in the song musica de gueto is from portugal by way of mozambique, cape verde and angola, known to some as batida even from way before i started djing i remember waiting all month just to get to see the either of the two djs i knew in seoul who would play hard drum music and now that im djing, bouyon, baile funk/volt and kuduro are finally catching on but more people still need to find out about this If you like it check out the other tracks from these producers or any others with fox at the end of their name And thank you again to @artemskz for having us on her show ! 🇫🇷🇰🇷
