"The debate about Bach on the piano has been bubbling for decades, but I feel that it has had its day. There are no limits to the ways Bach’s spirit can be channelled. His works, so powerful in their abstract conception, can and should be played on a modern Steinway, just as they can and should be played on an 18th century organ. I also believe deeply that he would have welcomed the piano with open arms. That is why, once I had these two ‘new but old’ scores in my hands, I sat down at my instrument, my piano, and paid grateful homage to Johann Sebastian Bach. We all owe so much to him." — Steinway Artist Aurélien Pontier ✨🎹
I have to confess: I’m deeply attached to paper when it comes to organizing my life.
I use the Grand Voyageur Pocket from @paper_republic , both to manage my travels and to organize my concert and recording programs. There is nothing more exciting than designing an album program using this notebook. It was with it that I conceived my album Vienna: Joyful Apocalypse .
I jot down my ideas for composers, test the sequence of pieces using manuscript paper, manage the recording schedule with my planner, and quickly note ideas for books to read and films to watch so I can fully immerse myself in everything related to my subject. Finally, with the card holder, I carefully keep small objects that remind me of distant and inspiring places where I have had the opportunity to perform throughout the year.
