Technically we have solved it by putting all weaving points to the back while letting the threads float on the front side of the fabric. This region, rich in textile heritage, provided the perfect backdrop for us to exchange experiences and showcase our work alongside diverse generations of textile industry professionals. Balenciaga reconstructed 🧥 The museum is supplementing its analogue holdings with digital and hybrid objects. A fascinating example is the "moulure", the fabric with which @balenciaga founder Cristóbal Balenciaga designed his famous one-seam coat in 1961. The analogue pattern, as well as film sequence captured by Swiss fashion photographer Tom Kublin of the original coat, gave rise to new objects for the collection: a tangible prototype crafted by @debee119 and an animated 3-D model by @augmentedweaving , which together paint a vivid picture of Balenciaga's masterful cutting technique. ✂️ The entire case study is exhibited in the collection exhibition "Collection Insights – Seven Perspectives", which is on show at Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, Ausstellungsstrasse until December 1, 2024. / / / TWISTED OBJECT The Twisted Object emerged from our ongoing research into creating new working methods by combining virtual, digital and physical tools into seamless workflows. A digital-first approach leads to new, previously unexplored possibilities and aesthetics. / / / TWISTED OBJECT The textured lines follow each individual cutting pattern piece. Therefore, the pattern is not random and tells something about the shape itself. A weaving pattern is decoration and construction. Together with the yarn it determines how the textile will fall and feel.
