Memphis was a VIBE! Finally getting around to a little recap from a fantastic week performing Zwilich Violin Concert with the symphony, working with some awesome youth symphony students, and generally soaking up good vibes and some truly delicious food (➡️➡️➡️ for actually the best fried chicken in the world). Many thanks to absolutely everyone at @memphissymphonyorchestra and @memphisyouthsymphony who made the week such a breeze, and here’s to you @kyledicksonconductor for a beautiful collab that is hopefully the first of many more 💕 (Photo 1 credit @marksoueiditrombone 🙏🏻) #violinist #memphis #musicianlife
Grateful for the opportunity to assist Maestro Kyle Dickson @kyledicksonconductor and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra @memphissymphonyorchestra last week.
The program featured Jessie Montgomery’s Starburst, Ellen Taaffee Zwillich’s Violin Concerto with the fantastic Audrey Wright @audreywrightviolin , Ravel’s Le Tombeau du Couperin, and Korngold’s Much Ado About Nothing.
A wonderful week of inspiring music-making!
What an INCREDIBLE day of masterclasses with the fabulous @audreywrightviolin ! 🎻 She brought so much energy, insight, and passion, and our MYSP students and families soaked up every moment. We’re beyond grateful for such an inspiring day! 💙💛🤍 Thank you to @memphissymphonyorchestra for partnering with us to make this wonderful class happen!

Genuinely sad to miss the blizzard about to descend upon nyc (stay safe everyone!) but also not sad at all about escaping to Miami Beach for a few days of coaching at New World Symphony before heading to Memphis to perform one of my favorite concerti, Ellen Zwilich’s Violin Concerto, with @memphissymphonyorchestra later this week! Let’s go! #ellenzwilich #violin #concerto #musicianslife
Still swooning over the lush sounds of RVW’s Lark Ascending, having performed with @baltchamberorch last weekend 💕 #violin #violinist #solo #larkascending
I believe that the practice of making music is really the practice of concepts that go far beyond music itself. To study music is to participate in something that is real, human, living, and long form. This is impactful on a molecular level, for both body and mind. Communication, empathy, critical thinking, curiosity, deep listening, time management, self reflection, humility, imagination, patience. All skills that seem to be fading from everyday life, but are essential components of musical practice.
In a piece like Vaughan Williams’s The Lark Ascending, practicing the shaping of long lines brings me fully into the present moment. It resets my nervous system and compels me to phrase with intention and foresight. One long line after another. Keep focus, hold attention, make the instrument sing continuously. In a world where so much of our human interaction and internal dialogue exists as fragmented overstimulation, I am grateful to slow down time, just slightly, with this gorgeous music.
I encourage us all to bring these “life skills” to the forefront of whatever practice we may be pursuing. To practice the thing itself is important, but there is always more to be learned from beyond the thing. That is where the good stuff, the best stuff, really resides. #practice #music #musician #violin #process
Snippet of a new lil arrangement for our upcoming NYE performance of Luminous Being at @firstnightchatham ✨ It’s been a year! Peace and love to you all ✌🏻 @gbrme #auldlangsyne #newarrangement #violin #music
How I use video recording to fix problems efficiently ✨ Don’t just record yourself performing run throughs! Recording can be an amazing tool for quickly fixing small problems all throughout the practice process. An iPhone or similar device is all you need to capture valuable information about your playing. You just have to be specific with what you are listening and looking for in the recording, remaining as objective as possible. These days, I find myself repeating the following mantra to my students and myself: Work Smarter, Not Harder! #practicetips #process #practice #worksmarter #practicetools #musician #violin
Getting ready for our Luminous Being show in Pittsburgh this Sunday 10/19 at 7pm!
