The new @_ukmusic report on the economic and cultural value of Black music genres makes for some impressive reading. Congratulations on the launch of the groundbreaking research. Here are just some of the impressive numbers from the report launched this week. We will do a deep dive into some of the recommendations next week. #UKMusic #BlackMusic #BlackMusicExport @dcmsgovuk @biztradegovuk

Part of the work of @uk.blacmex isn’t just simply building an export office which is siloed from the music sector but one which is responsive and accessible to the audience that we want to utilise it. When @focuswales approached us with the opportunity to host a panel in the devolved nation not only did it give us an opportunity to introduce the facility to talented musicians and organizations working with Black music genres. It also allows me and @audreydgray the ability to discern that what we are building is not only purpose built for ONE UK nation! Great honest conversations this weekend told me a few things. The challenges are similar. However, nuances are present and the omission of nuance and context means that Welsh talent isn’t viewed fairly through the industry lens. The panel was moderated by the brilliant @bablushikdar_ . On the panel was @uzo_iwobi (one of the organisers and co-founder of the @bwmawales with her daughter @ifyiwobi ), @oskar.world and @afrocluster . BLACMEX is chiefly designed to ask the more pertinent questions about the collection of data for Black music genres and how that data in turn can be used by independent artists and teams especially to have more agency in their own careers. diolch yn fawr Wrecsam ❤️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿💪🏾 #BlackMusicExport #UKMusic

📣 BLACMEX will be at @focuswales this year hosting a panel. This panel will explore the work of BLACMEX, the UK’s first Black music export office and the talent pipeline which defines export readiness for Black music genres in Wales. What are the current opportunities for artists and teams working with Black music genres in Wales and are there fundamental gaps in sector support and knowledge around export terminology. @uzo_iwobi @skunkadelic #oskarstrajn @bablushikdar_ @funkbutcher @audreydgray @bwmawales @focuswales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿❤️ #BlackMusicExport #UKMusic #BlackWelshMusic Black Music Export In Wales TŶ PAWB - PERFORMANCE SPACE 13:00 - 13:50 Saturday 9th May 2026

🥳 As the year draws to a close, here are some numbers to crunch! The UK’s first Black music export office has embarked on a huge first step into the positioning of Black music genres as an economic and cultural lever, not just for the UK but for partner countries. Intentional collaboration has seen a broadening of music networks whilst also enhancing how UK domestic cultural strategy builds synergies with international collaborators. We have lots of more exciting and pragmatic tools coming in the new year to make the world of music export not only faster and accessible for independent musicians working with Black music genres, but also the teams and government-adjacent bodies who work tirelessly to support them. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has engaged with BLACMEX already this year and we look forward to continuing the work in 2026. Wishing you a Happy and Prosperous New Year 🎉 ….if you’re an organisation or music artist interested in learning more about what we do please click the link-tree in the bio and complete our forms #BlackMusicExport #UKMusic #MusicExport

The BLACMEX Live Performance form is a submission based resource where active live music artists (which includes DJs) can submit their live performance information. 🚨 But why is this important? 🤔 In an era where streaming numbers do not paint the full picture of an artists live audience following, metrics such as audience numbers at events help mitigate against perceived risks for promoters and also establish growing and emerging artists and Black music genres. Live audience numbers also are a more concrete indicator of “export readiness” and allows for more sustainable careers for live artists. Musicians need to know where are the international markets for them to perform and BLACMEX seeks to intentionally fill that knowledge gap!!! As a UK based Black music export office we are intentional in providing the statistics to demonstrate established and emerging areas where cultural influences are prevalent. Whatever your international territory, submit and we can collectively enhance collaborative links between Black genres and its practitioners!! Head over to to subscribe and hear more about the organisations work! #MusicExport #BlackMusic #BlackMusicInfrastructure #SoftPower #Culture #Business #Trade
