LeggLake
@legg__lake is multimedia art project by Los Angeles-based sound designer, Albert Ortega. His output commonly expresses an intentionally unfinished quality slipping away from easily identifiable tags, ebbing instead into audio-reactive AV environments, creative coding, audio game engine exploration, hardware hacking, electroacoustic ecology, films scores, theatrical sound design, multichannel installation, writing, and instrumental misuse. All of the work at it’s core is primarily concerned with psychoacoustics—how sound informs feelings, thoughts, and a sense-of-place without succumbing to well-defined forms of music.
Albert has performed and installed at various music venues, festivals, universities and ephemeral locations around the Americas, UK, & Europe most notably at the Sonic Arts Research Centre, Queens University in Northern Belfast. He has received awards such as the Maybeck Studio Award, as well as the American Composers Forum Subito Grant. Regionally his collaborations span several collectives and organizations in the Los Angeles area. He holds an MFA from CalArts in Music Composition, New Media and Integrated Media. He has taught classes as an Associate Professor of Sound Design at USC School of Cinematic Arts.
